Tips and Best Practices
The Incident Type Helper is a useful tool for assisting crews in documenting the correct “Actual Incident Type Found”. Crews can use it to quickly reference both NFIRS and Local incident type definitions. Turn this feature on in Field Management -> Custom Field Management -> Basic Module | Section C | Actual Incident Type Found.
If you create custom questions for use in NFIRS reporting, you can track responses to those questions within an Ad-Hoc report. Target these questions with the following Data Sources:
Data Source: Incident Reports - Child: Incident Report Questions- Select any desired columns from the parent data source, then select both “Incident Report Question Names” and “Incident Report Questions” as columns for your tabular report.
- Criteria: Incident Report Questions - Use “equal” to single select a question or “in” to multi select multiple questions
Use Field Management to assign default values to NFIRS fields that rarely change for your department. Popular fields for default values include:
Response Section: Alarms, Primary Station, Aid Given/Received, Response Mode
EMS Module: Initial Level of Provider, Highest Level of Provider, EMS Disposition
