Register for the WebinarPre-Plan Map Interface Modernization (Feature Enhancement)
What – The Pre-Plan Map has been modernized with a redesigned interface, improved navigation, enhanced search capabilities, and streamlined workflows for managing occupancies and pre-plan information. These updates provide a more intuitive map experience and easier access to critical occupancy and building details.
Why – This enhancement improves usability and efficiency by simplifying how users locate, review, and manage pre-plan information. The updated interface helps first responders access critical information quickly while providing administrators with more efficient tools for maintaining accurate pre-plan records.
How
- Updated Map Interface – Navigate to the Pre-Plan Map from the module menu once the feature is enabled.
- Right-Hand Slide-Out Panel – Access Nearest Incidents, General Pre-Plan Info, and Regional Layer Controls from a centralized panel.
- Enhanced Address/Occupancy Search – Search by occupancy name, address point, or Google-assisted lookup. Search results include icons identifying the match type.
- Interactive Map Selection – Double-click the map or select a marker to open a contextual popover with available actions based on the selected location, including address points, occupancies, complex pre-plans, annotations, units, and hazardous materials.
- Multi-Occupancy Address Selector – Easily locate and select individual occupancies at addresses containing multiple occupancy records, organized by street name.
- Clone Occupancy – Duplicate an existing occupancy by selecting a source address, validating Address Line 2, and choosing whether to copy existing building information.
- Address Point Editing – Update an individual address point's location directly from the map using the Address Point Edit panel.
- Pre-Plan Edit Form – Access and manage detailed pre-plan information through organized sections, including Address Details, Occupancy Details, Units, Hazardous Materials, Contacts, Attachments, Levels, and Annotations.
Use Case
- Responding Crews – Quickly locate an occupancy, review hazardous materials, and access important contact information before arriving on scene.
- Pre-Plan Administrators – Streamline the creation of occupancy records by cloning existing occupancies and carrying over shared building information.
-
Dispatchers and Command Staff – Use regional map layers and nearest incident information to improve situational awareness and support operational decision-making during active incidents.
Custom Field Creation for Occupancy Records (New Enhancement)
- What – Administrators can now create and manage custom fields directly within Occupancy records using a self-service configuration process. These fields appear alongside standard Occupancy fields and are available in the Ad Hoc Report Builder, providing greater flexibility in capturing and reporting on occupancy-specific information without requiring technical assistance.
- Why – Previously, customization was limited to renaming existing fields, making it difficult to capture information unique to specific operational needs. This enhancement allows administrators to tailor Occupancy records to their workflows, improve data collection, and support more comprehensive reporting.
-
How –
- Navigate to Pre-Plan Setup to access the custom field configuration options.
- Create a custom field by specifying its Label, Section, Data Type, Position, and Required status.
- Once configured, custom fields appear alongside standard fields within Occupancy records and are available in the Ad Hoc Report Builder.
-
Important Notes:
- A custom field's Data Type cannot be changed once the field has been used.
- A maximum of 15 active custom fields can be configured at one time.
- Custom fields are supported in Enhanced Pre-Plan only and are not available in Legacy Pre-Plan.
-
Use Case – An administrator can create a custom field to capture specialized inspection details or occupancy characteristics not included in standard fields. Fields can also be marked as required to promote consistent data entry and improve record completeness. Once collected, this information can be included in Ad Hoc Reports, allowing users to analyze occupancy data based on their specific operational and reporting needs.
Complex Pre-Planning for Multi-Building Sites (New Enhancement)
- What – Users can now create Complex Pre-Plans to manage multiple buildings or locations that share common fire protection systems and resources. This enhancement allows campuses, multi-building facilities, and other large properties to be organized into a single, unified pre-plan, providing a comprehensive view of the entire site.
- Why – Properties with multiple buildings often share critical fire protection infrastructure, such as Fire Department Connections (FDCs), alarm panels, and key boxes. Previously, individual address-level pre-plans made it difficult to document these shared systems effectively. Complex Pre-Plans provide a centralized view of shared resources, improving situational awareness and helping responders access critical information across an entire property.
-
How –
- Navigate to Pre-Plans > Complex Pre-Plans.
- Use the List View to browse existing complexes, search for specific records, apply filters, or manage saved views.
- Select Add Complex to create a new complex.
- Choose to create a name-only entry without a completed pre-plan or proceed directly with creating a full Complex Pre-Plan.
- In Map View, draw a polygon boundary around the occupancies or address points associated with the complex.
- Once the boundary is established, document shared resources and information, including Units, Hazmats, Inspection Zones, and Special Directions.
- Important Note: Complex Pre-Plans do not currently support all mapping capabilities available in single-address Pre-Plan V3 records.
- Use Case – A university campus with multiple buildings sharing a single FDC can be organized into one Complex Pre-Plan, allowing responders to quickly identify shared fire protection resources. Similarly, a shopping center with a common alarm panel can document that system at the complex level rather than across individual storefronts. For larger properties, such as industrial parks, users can also capture shared hazardous materials information and special directions, ensuring responding crews have a centralized view of critical site details before arriving on scene.
