Register for the WebinarCommand Module - Kanban Board Improvements
- What - The Kanban view in the Command module has been improved to provide a cleaner and more flexible board experience. Updates include wider Kanban columns to better fit standard assignment boxes, drag-and-drop support for columns, the ability to rename and edit all columns, and improved dropdown behavior for unit and assignment names.
- Why - These updates improve usability and consistency across the Command module by reducing text truncation, preventing layout issues, and making Kanban columns easier to organize and manage during an incident.
-
How
- Navigate to the Command module.
- Open the applicable incident and switch to the Kanban view.
- Review the widened columns, which now better accommodate standard assignment boxes.
- Drag and drop columns to reorder them as needed.
- Click a column name to open the dropdown menu.
- Click the unit or assignment name to open the related dropdown.
- Rename or edit columns as needed.
- Note: The Fire Incident default column can be renamed and moved like other columns.
-
Use Case - During incident command operations, a user can organize the Kanban board by dragging columns into the preferred order, rename columns to match the current operational structure, and access dropdown actions directly by clicking the unit or assignment name, making the board easier to manage in real time.
Command Module - Floor and Geographic Incident View Enhancements
- What - The Command module now supports expanded incident command views for tracking personnel, assignments, floors, and geographic positions during active operations. Incident Commanders can switch between supported views such as Default, Floors, Kanban, and Alpha/Bravo/Charlie/Delta to manage resources in the layout that best fits the incident. These enhancements introduce floor-by-floor accountability, geographic location tracking, configurable position names, floor and position badges on unit cards, personnel counts by floor or geographic area, fire floor and adjacent floor indicators, staging area visibility for unassigned units, and assignment card updates that show floor-specific information. The command board also supports custom geographic locations beyond the default Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, and Delta template, allowing agencies to align the board with the actual layout of the incident.
- Why - Multi-story and geographically complex incidents require precise visibility into where personnel are operating. These enhancements improve situational awareness by helping command staff quickly assess resource distribution by floor, building side, staging area, exposure area, or other configured operational location. This supports stronger personnel accountability, safer tactical coordination, and faster command decisions during incidents where location awareness is critical.
-
How
- Navigate to the Command module and open the applicable incident command board.
- Use the view toggle in the command board to switch between available views, including Default, Floors, Kanban, and Alpha/Bravo/Charlie/Delta.
- Use the Default view to continue working in the standard command board layout with added floor and geographic position details where available.
- Use the Floors view to organize assignments vertically by floor level, such as Floor 3, Floor 2, Floor 1, and Ground.
- Review personnel counts by floor to support floor-specific accountability.
- Use fire floor indicators to identify the active fire floor and automatically highlight adjacent priority floors.
- Review unit cards for floor badges, position badges, color-coded geographic indicators, staging area locations, and fire floor warning icons.
- Use the Alpha/Bravo/Charlie/Delta view to assess assignments, unit counts, tactical activity, and accountability by building side or quadrant.
- Configure geographic locations during board setup when the incident requires custom position names or more locations than the default Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, and Delta layout.
- Move units between floors or geographic positions using the available unit movement workflow.
- Use floor or position details on assignment cards to identify when units are operating on different floors or in different geographic areas than the primary assignment.
- Note: Available views, custom geographic location options, color indicators, movement workflows, fire floor indicators, personnel counts, and floor-specific PAR tracking may vary based on configuration and release availability.
- Note: Assignment data and configured geographic locations are intended to persist when switching between supported command board views.
- Use Case - During a multi-story structure fire, an Incident Commander can switch to the Floors view to see which crews are assigned to each level, identify personnel operating on the fire floor and adjacent priority floors, and monitor floor-level accountability in real time. For incidents organized by building side or exposure area, the same command board can be viewed using Alpha/Bravo/Charlie/Delta or custom geographic locations to assess unit distribution, tactical priorities, staging, exposures, and command assignments by operational area. This gives command staff a clearer picture of personnel placement and resource needs without disrupting the active command workflow.
