Inspections – Review Notes for Returned Inspections
What - Reviewers can now provide required Review Notes when returning an inspection from Ready for Review back to In Progress. A notification email is automatically sent to the selected recipients, and the review notes, recipients, acting user, and timestamp are recorded in the inspection history for future reference.
Why - This enhancement provides a consistent review process by requiring reviewers to document why an inspection was returned for corrections. It improves communication between reviewers and inspectors, reduces delays caused by informal feedback, and creates a permanent audit trail of review decisions.
How
Navigate to an inspection in Ready for Review.
Select Back to In Progress.
In the Review Notes dialog:
Verify or update the Send Report To recipients.
Optionally select CC to me to receive a copy of the notification.
Enter the required Review Notes explaining the requested corrections.
Select Send to notify recipients and return the inspection to In Progress.
After submission, the inspection behaves like any standard In Progress inspection, including support for manual save and autosave.
Note: Review Notes and email recipients are required before the inspection can be returned to In Progress.
Use Case - A senior reviewer evaluates an inspection submitted by a newer inspector and identifies missing information that must be corrected before completion. The reviewer returns the inspection to In Progress, documents the required changes in the Review Notes, and automatically notifies the submitting inspector so the inspection can be updated and resubmitted with clear guidance.
