Contacts List – Manage Contact Types (Feature Enhancement)
- What – Enhanced contact management by introducing the ability to create, view, edit, search, and delete Contact Types. Users can also create new contact types while adding or editing a contact, with changes reflected immediately without requiring a page refresh. Contact types currently assigned to contacts are identified with an In Use indicator and protected from deletion.
- Why – This enhancement simplifies contact management by allowing users to maintain contact types without leaving their current workflow. It improves data consistency, reduces unnecessary navigation, and prevents the accidental deletion of contact types associated with existing contact records.
-
How –
- Navigate to the Contacts List and select the Contact Types (Step 1) header to open the management window.
- Use the Search field to locate existing contact types.
- Create, view, or edit contact types directly within the management window. Changes appear immediately in the list and available dropdown options.
- To add a contact type while creating or editing a contact, open the Contact Type dropdown and select Add New Contact Type (Step 2).
- Create the new contact type. It will automatically be selected in the dropdown without refreshing the page.
- Save the contact record to retain the selected contact type.
- Note: Contact types assigned to existing contacts display an In Use indicator and cannot be deleted. Attempting to delete one displays an Active Conflicts message.
- Note: Contact types are maintained separately for each client to ensure only applicable options are displayed.
-
Use Case – When adding a new contact who requires a contact type that does not yet exist, users can select Add New Contact Type directly from the contact record, create the appropriate type, and continue saving the contact without navigating away or refreshing the page. If an existing contact type needs to be updated, users can manage it from the Contacts List, with changes reflected immediately. Contact types already assigned to contacts remain protected from accidental deletion, helping maintain accurate and consistent contact records.
