Learn About New Features in First Due
Each month, we’ll cover the latest First Due releases in a dedicated webinar. Join us to review new features, product updates, and enhancements designed to help your agency get the most out of First Due.
Register for the WebinarePCR Degraded Connection Offline Mode
- What - ePCR now supports Degraded Connection Offline Mode, allowing users to continue documenting patient care when an internet connection is technically available but too slow for reliable ePCR use. When enabled, ePCR can treat a degraded connection as offline and use its existing offline functionality rather than waiting for slow network responses. This behavior is isolated specifically to ePCR; other First Due modules continue using the available network connection normally.
- Why - Field personnel often work in areas where cellular or Wi-Fi service is available but performs too slowly to support dependable documentation. Previously, ePCR could transition to offline functionality when connectivity was completely lost, but a slow connection could still cause delayed saves, slow loading, or workflows that appeared unresponsive. This enhancement helps keep patient care documentation responsive in poor-connectivity environments while avoiding unnecessary offline behavior across other First Due modules.
-
How -
- Offline Documentation must be enabled for the agency before Degraded Connection Offline Mode can be used.
- Degraded connection handling is disabled by default for individual users.
- When the connection is performing normally, ePCR continues operating online as usual.
- When the connection is available but determined to be too slow for reliable ePCR use, ePCR can use its offline functionality instead of waiting for the degraded connection.
- Once the connection is suitable for normal operation again, ePCR can resume its standard online behavior.
- This functionality applies only to ePCR. Other First Due modules, including Fire Inspection and Incident Command, continue using the available network connection.
- Note: The Treat slow connection as offline preference is stored locally in the user's browser and may need to be enabled separately when using a different browser or device.
-
Use Case - A medic is completing an ePCR in an area with weak cellular service. Although the device still shows an active network connection, network responses are too slow for dependable documentation. With Treat slow connection as offline enabled, ePCR can use offline functionality so the medic can continue documenting without waiting for the degraded connection. Meanwhile, other First Due modules continue using the available network normally.
Axon Transcript Import for AI-Assisted ePCR Generation
- What - The new Axon Transcript Import feature allows EMS providers to import one or more Axon-generated body camera transcripts directly into an ePCR for use with AI Narrative generation. Providers can review available transcript recordings, select relevant transcripts from one or multiple providers, and automatically send the imported content into the existing AI Narrative workflow. When multiple transcripts are selected, First Due organizes and merges the content, removes duplicate conversation, and creates a unified transcript while preserving the context of the source recordings.
- Why - Body-worn camera audio can capture valuable details from patient encounters that providers may otherwise need to manually recall or transcribe when completing documentation. Integrating Axon transcripts directly into the ePCR workflow reduces manual data entry and eliminates the need to copy and paste transcript content between systems. This provides providers with an additional source for building complete and consistent patient care narratives while maintaining the existing review and AI-assisted documentation workflow.
-
How
- Open the applicable ePCR and select Import Axon from the top action bar.
- The Transcript Import window will display available Axon transcript candidates from the previous 24 hours, sorted with the newest recordings first.
- Review available metadata, which may include the Recording Start Time, Provider/User, Recording Duration, Incident/Case Identifier, Device Name, Transcript Status, and a preview of the transcript.
- Select one or more transcripts with an Available status and click Import.
- When multiple transcripts are selected, First Due will organize and merge the transcript content and remove duplicate conversation before continuing to the AI workflow.
- The AI Narrative window will automatically open with the imported transcript content populated.
- Providers can review or edit the transcript, analyze the content, generate an AI-assisted narrative, and apply the completed narrative to the incident using the existing AI Narrative workflow.
- Access is controlled through Import Own Axon Evidence and Import All Axon Evidence permissions. Users with Import Own Axon Evidence can access only their own available transcripts, while users with Import All Axon Evidence can access transcripts from other providers.
- Note: The Import Axon option is available only when the Axon integration has been configured and the user has the appropriate permission.
- Note: Only transcripts with an Available status can be imported. Transcripts that are still processing, have no usable transcript, or could not be retrieved cannot be selected.
- Use Case - An EMS crew responds to a complex patient encounter where multiple providers capture audio using Axon body-worn cameras. While completing the ePCR, an authorized provider selects Import Axon, reviews the available recordings, and imports the relevant transcripts from the incident. First Due combines the selected transcript content and automatically opens it within the AI Narrative workflow. The provider can then review and edit the transcript, generate an AI-assisted patient care narrative, make any necessary changes, and apply the completed narrative to the ePCR.
