Dispatch Unit Subtype Color Coding for Command Board and Responder Views
- What - Added configurable color coding for Dispatch Unit Subtypes, allowing agencies to assign colors to apparatus subtypes and display those colors consistently throughout operational workflows. Configured subtype colors appear as colored pill chips on the Command Board and within Responder incident views, and as color swatches in the Dispatch Unit table. This provides a faster visual method for distinguishing unit types during active incidents.
- Why - Quickly identifying apparatus types is important during fast-moving incidents where command staff and responders may be monitoring multiple units at once. Color-coded unit subtypes provide an immediate visual reference that reduces the need to read individual unit labels and supports faster recognition of available and assigned resources.
-
How
- Navigate to Dispatch Unit Setup.
- Select the Unit Subtype Colors tab.
- Choose an existing apparatus subtype from the available subtype list.
- Assign the desired color to the subtype.
- Save the configuration.
- Units assigned to the configured subtype automatically display the corresponding color on the Command Board, in Responder incident views, and within the Dispatch Unit table.
- To assign unit subtypes in bulk, use the Import Wizard and map the Subtype field during the import process.
- This feature is optional and does not require existing unit records to be backfilled before use.
- Use Case - A dispatcher monitoring the Command Board can quickly distinguish engine companies from ladder companies by their configured colors without reading every unit label. During a multi-unit incident, an Incident Commander can use the color-coded pill chips in Responder views to quickly assess the types of apparatus assigned or on scene. Administrators onboarding or updating a large fleet can also use the Import Wizard to assign subtypes in bulk, allowing the appropriate colors to appear automatically across supported operational views.
