Purpose Statement
This article explains how to assign a First Due LMS course to specific personnel through Scheduled Training.
While personnel can self-enroll in available LMS courses, assigning a course allows your agency to designate specific users who need to complete the training and establish a completion date.
Background Information
When a First Due LMS course is loaded into your agency's platform, a corresponding Training template is created. This template can be used to schedule the course and assign it to personnel.
Scheduled Training is available to agencies that have purchased Basic Training or Advanced Training. The options displayed within the Training module may vary depending on your agency's configuration and Training package.
First Due LMS courses are self-paced and are generally designed to be completed in one hour or less.
Required Permissions
The user assigning the course must have access to the Training module and the functionality required to create or manage Scheduled Training.
To configure assignment notifications, the user must also have access to Training Setup and its notification settings.
First Due uses role-based access controls for Training functionality. The specific named permission settings required for this workflow could not be verified from publicly available First Due documentation. Confirm that the user's role has the appropriate Training and Training Setup access within your agency's permissions configuration.
Warning:
The ability to schedule and assign First Due LMS courses is only available to agencies that have purchased Basic or Advanced Training (the Module). Your personnel can still choose to Self-Enroll and you can communicate your requirements through other methods (ex: email) if you do not have the Training Module.

When a First Due LMS course is added to your platform, a corresponding Training template is created so the course can be scheduled and assigned.
3. Configure the Training Assignment
- Review the information populated from the Training template.
- Confirm the Start Date.
The Start Date defaults to the current date.
- Enter the desired End Date.
- Update the Duration as appropriate.
The system may calculate the duration based on the date range. First Due LMS courses are generally designed to take one hour or less to complete and you can manually override the Duration field to 1:00 hour.
- Complete any additional fields required by your agency.
Depending on your agency's Training configuration, additional information such as Topic, Shift, or other fields may be required.
4. Add Attendees
- Navigate to the Attendees section.
- Select Add Attendee.
- Select the personnel who should be assigned the LMS course.
For larger agencies, use the available filters to narrow the personnel list. Available filters may include:
- Shift
- Station
- Group
- Qualifier
- Unit
- Rank
- If the course should be assigned to all users, enable Add All System Users.
Use this option when the course is intended for everyone in the agency, such as an administrative course or agency-wide training.
- Select Save.
The selected personnel will now appear as attendees for the course assignment.
5. Save the Scheduled Training
- Review the scheduled training information and assigned attendees.
- Select Save.
- Close the scheduled training record when finished.
The assigned training will appear within the Training module for the selected personnel.
6. Complete the Training Record
After all assigned personnel have completed the LMS course:
- Return to the scheduled training record.
- Confirm that all assigned attendees have completed the course.
- Select Complete.
Completing the scheduled training closes the class.
7. Configure Assignment Notifications
Your agency can configure notifications so personnel are notified when they are assigned a self-complete LMS course.
- Navigate to Training.
- Select Training Setup.
- Select the Notifications tab.
- Locate the notification for personnel who are assigned to a self-complete training as an attendee.
- Enable the notification.
- Open the notification options.
- Select the desired notification methods:
- System Notification
- Configure the notification to Send to Assigned Users.
- Select Save in the upper-right corner.
Once configured, assigned personnel can receive a notification when they are added to a qualifying self-complete training.
Best Practices
- Give personnel enough time between the Start Date and End Date to complete the course.
- When assigning monthly training, consider setting the completion date before the end of the month.
- Use Shift, Station, Group, Qualifier, Unit, or Rank filters to quickly locate personnel in larger agencies.
- Use Add All System Users only when the training is intended for everyone in the agency.
- Review all agency-required fields before saving the scheduled training.
- Configure email and system notifications to help personnel identify new training assignments.
- Confirm that all assigned attendees have completed the course before selecting Complete.
- Remember that First Due LMS courses are self-paced even when an End Date is assigned.
