Purpose Statement
Adding a quiz to a custom online course allows training administrators to assess attendee knowledge and establish completion requirements within the Training module.
Course creators can build a new quiz or select an existing published quiz. Once added, quiz settings can be adjusted to control the number of questions displayed, passing threshold, maximum attempts, and whether the quiz is timed.
Background Information
Quizzes can be added while building a custom online course in the Course Library.
To add a document, the course must either be in Draft Status or Published so long as it has not been assigned to another user. Adding a quiz is one of the available content options when creating an online course.
Course creators have two options when adding a quiz:
- Create New – Opens the Quiz Builder to create a new quiz.
- Search Existing – Allows the creator to select from previously published quizzes.
Each content type within an online course is optional and can be added based on the training and assessment needs of the course.
Important Note: This is part of a series of steps to create a custom online course. While each content type is not required to create an online course, they are presented in order here for efficient presentation.
Step 1: Course Builder - Overview
Step 2: Adding an mp4
Step 3: Adding a Document
Step 4: Adding an Audio File
Step 5: Adding a Quiz (This Step)
Step 6: Adding a SCORM file
Step 7: Adding an External Link
Required Permissions
Users must have access to the Training module and sufficient permissions to create or edit courses within the Course Library.
Users creating a new quiz must also have the appropriate access needed to use the Quiz Builder.

- Enable Required when successful quiz completion should be necessary for receiving course credit.
- Preview an existing quiz before adding it to confirm that its content matches the course objectives.
- Set the number of displayed questions based on the amount of material being assessed.
- Establish a passing threshold that reflects the level of competency required for the topic.
- Consider the difficulty of the quiz when determining the maximum number of attempts.
- Use a time limit only when timed completion supports the goals of the assessment.
- Review all quiz settings before publishing the course.
- Use Save Draft while additional course content or configuration is still needed.
Troubleshooting & FAQs
Why can't I add a quiz to the course?

What is the difference between Create New and Search Existing?
Create New opens the Quiz Builder so you can build a new quiz. Search Existing allows you to select from quizzes that have already been created and published.
Why can't I find a quiz when using Search Existing?
The list displays published quizzes. Verify that the quiz you are looking for has been published.
Can I preview a quiz before adding it?
Yes. Use the available Preview option to review an existing quiz before selecting it.
Can I control how many questions attendees receive?

Does a quiz have to be required for course completion?
No. Leave the Required toggle off if the quiz should be part of the course but should not be required to receive course credit.
Should I select Save Draft or Publish?
Select Save Draft if you are still building or reviewing the course. Select Publish when the course is complete and ready for attendee enrollment.
