Purpose Statement
Courses define what students are expected to complete within a training class and how credit is awarded. Properly configuring objectives ensures accurate training records, supports compliance with certifications and standards, and guarantees that personnel receive correct credit for time spent in training.
Background Information
Courses are one of the most critical components of class creation in First Due. They determine:
What content students must complete
How training hours are distributed and calculated
Whether training aligns with certifications, standards, or compliance requirements
When a class is created using a template, objectives may already be included. For classes created without a template, objectives must be manually added. Course visibility may be restricted by selected Categories or Topics to protect reporting accuracy and prevent invalid data entry.
Required Permissions
Users managing objectives typically require:
Manage Training Classes – Required to add, edit, or configure objectives
View Courses – Required to select objectives from the dropdown
Manage Templates (if applicable) – Required to modify template-based objectives
Permissions may vary based on role and agency configuration.

Review Time and Completion Settings
Total Class Hours
Automatically populated from the class Duration field.
Total Hours Remaining
Automatically calculated as time is assigned to individual courses.
At the top of the courses list, enable Completion Order if required.
When enabled, students must complete courses in the order shown.
Configure Individual Courses
For each course, class creators can:
Associate Time
Enter the amount of time spent on the objective.
Time entered is how students receive credit for the class.
Remove Standards (Optional)
Remove standards that do not apply to this specific class.
Create a Scored Objective
Enable scoring to open:
Total Score
Required to Pass
Review all fields carefully to ensure accuracy, especially for compliance-related objectives.
Manage Courses from Templates
If the class was created from the Course Library:
A toggle switch may appear to the right of each course.
Use the toggle to indicate whether the course will be completed for this class.
Toggling off does not delete the course.
It simply excludes it from completion requirements for this class.
This allows creators to select only the courses needed while preserving the full template.
Finalize Objectives
Repeat the configuration steps for each courses.
Confirm that all required time has been allocated.
Total Course time cannot exceed total hours for this class (duration). Total Hours remaining cannot be negative
Verify that total hours remaining equals zero if full credit is expected.
Best Practices
Always allocate time to each course to ensure students receive proper credit.
Use completion order for structured or progressive training.
Limit objectives to those truly completed during the class to maintain clean records.
Review standards carefully for Courses tied to certifications such as ISO.
Avoid removing standards unless they clearly do not apply to the session.
Troubleshooting & FAQs
Why can’t I see certain courses in the dropdown?
Objectives may be restricted based on the selected Category or Topic to ensure accurate reporting.
Why are total hours remaining not zero?
Not all courses have time assigned. Review each objective and add time as needed.
Does turning off an course delete it from the class?
No. It only excludes the objective from completion for that specific class.
Why is time allocation so important?
Time entered per course determines how credit is applied, especially for certification and standards-based reporting.
