The Link Investigations feature allows users to connect related Fire Investigation reports. This helps agencies organize related investigations, maintain continuity between records, and quickly access connected investigations from within the report.
Background Information
Fire Investigations can be linked when multiple investigation records are related to the same incident, location, event, or investigative process. Once linked, users can expand the linked investigation list, view or edit connected reports, and unlink records when needed.

- Fire Investigation Access
- View Fire Investigations
- Create/Edit Fire Investigations
- Link Fire Investigations

Step-by-Step Guide
1. Navigate to the Investigation List
- Navigate to the Fire Investigation module.
- Select Investigation List.
2. Open or Create a Fire Investigation
- To create a new investigation, select + Add Fire Investigation.
- To edit an existing investigation, select the pencil icon in the Actions column.
3. Open Link Investigations
- From within the Fire Investigation report, select the chain link button.
4. Filter Available Investigations
- Filter the list of investigations by one or more of the following:
- Investigation Number
- Scene Type
- Location
- Incident Date
- Inspection Zone
- Response Zone
- Select Apply.
5. Link Investigations
- Select the checkbox next to the investigation or investigations you want to link.
- Use the Actions column to view or edit an investigation before linking, if needed.
- Select Link.
6. View or Manage Linked Investigations
- Use the down arrow to view linked investigations.
- Select the pencil/eye icon to view or edit a linked investigation.
- Select the broken chain icon to unlink an investigation.
Best Practices
- Verify each investigation before linking by using the view/edit option.
- Use filters to narrow the list and avoid linking the wrong record.
- Link only investigations with a clear relationship.
- Review linked investigations before completing or authorizing the report.
- Unlink records when they are no longer related or were linked in error.
