Purpose Statement
The Import Fire Incident Data feature allows users to populate a Fire Investigation with information from an existing Fire Incident Report. Importing incident data reduces duplicate data entry, improves accuracy, and provides investigators with a strong foundation for completing their investigation.
Background Information
While documenting a Fire Investigation, users can import information from a Fire Incident Report. By default, the import list displays incidents from today and yesterday, but users can refine the results using filters or search.
Before completing the import, users can review and modify the imported information to ensure only the desired data is brought into the Fire Investigation.

Step-by-Step Guide
1. Navigate to the Investigation List
- Navigate to Fire Investigations.
- Select Investigation List.
2. Open or Create a Fire Investigation
- To begin a new investigation, select + Add.
- To continue an existing investigation, use the Actions column to edit the investigation.
3. Open Import Fire Incident Data
- Within the Fire Investigation, select Import Fire Incident Data.
4. Review the Fire Incident List
- A modal displays Fire Incident Reports from today and yesterday by default.
- You can:
- Apply Filters
- Customize Columns
- Use Search to locate a specific Fire Incident Report
5. Filter Fire Incident Reports
- Filter the list using one or more of the following:
- Search Period
- Incident Number
- Location
- Status
- Select Apply Filters to update the results.
6. Select a Fire Incident to Import
- Review the available Fire Incident Reports.
- Before importing, you may use the Actions column to:
- View the Fire Incident Report
- Edit the Fire Incident Report
- Begin a Fire Incident Report (if applicable)
- Select the checkbox next to the Fire Incident Report you want to import.
- Select Import.
7. Review and Modify Imported Data
- A review modal displays the data that will be imported.
- Before completing the import, you can:
- Edit individual fields as needed.
- Remove individual fields using the Trashcan icon.
- Remove entire sections using the Trashcan icon.
- When satisfied with the information, select Update.
8. Continue the Investigation
- Review the imported information throughout the Fire Investigation.
- Complete any remaining sections before saving or completing the investigation.

- Review the Fire Incident Report before importing to ensure you select the correct record.
- Use filters to quickly locate older or specific incidents.
- Review all imported fields before selecting Update.
- Remove any unnecessary fields or sections that are not applicable to the investigation.
- Verify imported information for accuracy before completing the Fire Investigation.
Troubleshooting & FAQs
Why can't I find the Fire Incident Report I want to import?
By default, only incidents from today and yesterday are displayed. Use Apply Filters to expand the search period or search by Incident Number, Location, or Status.
Can I review a Fire Incident before importing it?
Yes. Use the Actions column to view or edit the Fire Incident Report before selecting Import.
Can I remove information before importing?
Yes. During the review process, you can edit fields or remove individual fields and entire sections using the Trashcan icon.
Does importing overwrite existing Investigation information?
Review the imported data carefully before selecting Update to ensure the desired information is imported.
Can I continue editing the Investigation after importing data?
Yes. All imported information can be reviewed and the remainder of the Fire Investigation can be completed before saving or submitting the report.
