Feature Enhancements

  • Message Template User and Group Retention

    • What: Message templates now save and restore both message content and selected recipients (users and groups) from the "Send message to" field
    • Why: Eliminates repetitive recipient selection for frequently sent messages and reduces manual entry errors during routine communications
    • How: Save recipients with message content using "Save as Template" - when selecting saved template, both message and recipients automatically populate the form
    • Use Case: Training officers can create templates for recurring safety bulletins with pre-selected crew groups, department heads can save emergency notification templates with incident command recipients, reducing response time for critical communications

  • Enhanced User Search with Email Display

    • What: User search dropdown in "Send Message To" field now displays email addresses alongside names in format "Full Name (email@example.com)"
    • Why: Prevents message delivery errors in departments with multiple users sharing similar names by providing clear recipient identification
    • How: Email addresses automatically display in search results when typing user names in recipient selection field
    • Use Case: Departments with common names like "John Smith" or "Mike Johnson" can distinguish between personnel using email addresses, ensuring messages reach intended recipients during shift changes or emergency notifications

Fixes

  • Message Access Permission Correction
    • Fixed issue where users with only "Access Messaging" permission could not view or reply to messages sent to them after recent module updates. Users can now view and respond to their assigned messages without requiring "View Message History" permission, which properly remains limited to administrative users needing full message archive access. This maintains appropriate security boundaries while restoring standard messaging functionality for all personnel.
