Hydrant Setup: Hydrant Zones

Hydrant Setup: Hydrant Zones

Purpose Statement

This article explains how to create and manage Hydrant Zones within the Hydrant Module. Hydrant Zones allow departments to group hydrants for operational purposes such as testing assignments, shift-based responsibilities, or district-level organization.

Background Information

Hydrant Zones are a flexible way to organize hydrants based on departmental needs. Common use cases include assigning hydrants to specific shifts, stations, or geographic areas. For example, a department may divide hydrants within Station 1’s district into three zones—Station 1A, Station 1B, and Station 1C—allowing each shift to manage its own group of hydrants.

Required Permissions

Only users with Admin or Configuration permissions can create, edit, or delete Hydrant Zones. These permissions can be managed under Admin > Roles & Permissions > Hydrant Module.

7. At the bottom of the table, you can adjust pagination settings and download the currently displayed list as a CSV file.

Best Practices

  1. Use clear and consistent naming conventions for hydrant zones to ensure easy identification.
  2. Group hydrants logically based on operational needs such as shift assignments or geographic boundaries.
  3. Periodically review and update zones to reflect changes in staffing or district layouts.
  4. Avoid creating too many zones, which can complicate assignments and reporting.

Troubleshooting & FAQs

Q: What happens if I delete a Hydrant Zone?
A: Deleting a zone will remove its grouping, but the hydrants themselves will remain in the system. Reassign them to a new or existing zone as needed.

Q: Can hydrants belong to more than one zone?
A: No, each hydrant can only be assigned to one zone at a time.

Q: Is there a limit to the number of zones I can create?
A: There is no hard limit, but it is recommended to keep the number manageable for operational clarity.
