Hydrant Setup: Hydrant Types

Purpose Statement

This article explains how to configure and manage Hydrant Types within the Hydrant Module. Hydrant Types allow departments to define and customize the various water sources available in their jurisdiction.


Background Information

First Due provides a default list of 19 different water source types that departments may encounter. These types can be utilized to reflect the specific water sources present in a department’s jurisdiction. Administrators can also create new custom hydrant types with unique names, icons, and background colors.


Required Permissions

Only users with Admin or Configuration permissions can create, edit, or delete Hydrant Zones. These permissions can be managed under Admin > Roles & Permissions > Hydrant Module.

Step-by-Step Guide

1. Navigate to the Hydrant Module, then select Hydrant Setup and finally the Hydrant Types tab.



2. Create a new Hydrant Type
  1. Click the Create Hydrant Type button.
  2. Enter a name for the new hydrant type.
  3. Select a picture and a background color for the new type.
  4. Check the box to make the hydrant type active.
  5. Click Create.



5.  Use the search bar at the top to locate hydrant types by Code or Name, or filter by status.




6.  In the Actions column, click the pencil icon to edit a custom hydrant type or the trash can icon to delete it.




7.  Each column can be rearranged as desired




8.  Each column can also be sorted in ascending, descending, or default order.




9.  At the bottom of the table, you can adjust pagination settings and download the currently displayed list as a CSV file.

  1. Use descriptive and consistent naming for hydrant types to ensure clarity.
  2. Assign meaningful icons and background colors to help users quickly identify hydrant types in the field.
  3. Review and update hydrant types periodically to reflect changes in infrastructure or operational needs.
  4. Avoid creating redundant or overly specific types that may confuse users.

Q: Can I edit default hydrant types provided by First Due?
A: No, default hydrant types cannot be edited. Only custom types created by your department can be modified or deleted.

Q: What image formats are supported for hydrant type icons?
A: Common image formats such as PNG and JPG are supported when uploading icons for custom hydrant types.

Q: Can I deactivate a hydrant type without deleting it?
A: Yes, you can uncheck the Active box to deactivate a hydrant type without removing it from the system
