1. Field Management - Add Custom Questions to Field Management
What - A new Custom Questions subsection has been added under Exposure Setup → Field Management, enabling users to create and configure custom fields for the Exposures module with comprehensive field management capabilities. Users can now add custom questions, assign them to specific sections including default and custom exposure types, configure data types and validations, manage picklist values, and control field visibility and activity status through an intuitive interface.
Why - This enhancement was implemented due to customer request to provide flexible data collection capabilities that accommodate varying operational requirements and exposure tracking needs across different organizations, allowing customization of exposure documentation without requiring system modifications.
How - Access and configure custom questions through the Field Management interface:
Navigate to Exposure Setup → Field Management → Custom Questions
Click Add New Custom Question to open the configuration popup
Complete the required fields: Field Label, Definition, and Section (from dropdown)
Select appropriate Data Type from available options: Boolean, Date/Time, Integer/Number, Text/String, Memo/Description, or List
Configure data type-specific validations (min/max values, character limits, decimal precision)
For List fields, add and manage picklist values with multiselect and option code capabilities
Use the table view to manage existing custom questions with Edit, Delete, or Active toggle actions
Note: Custom questions can only be deleted if not used in saved reports; otherwise they must be deactivated
Note: Required fields in hidden sections are validated only when the section is visible based on exposure type selection
Use Case - A fire department handling hazardous material incidents can create custom questions specific to chemical exposures, adding fields like "Chemical concentration level" (Integer/Number type) to the Personnel Exposed – Chemical section, or "Respiratory protection used" (List type) with predefined options including SCBA, N95 mask, and none. These custom fields automatically appear in exposure reports when documenting chemical exposure incidents, ensuring consistent data collection for regulatory compliance while accommodating the department's specific documentation requirements for different types of hazardous material responses.
Enhancements
1. Update Exposure Setup and Permissions
What - The permissions structure for Exposure Setup has been streamlined and reorganized under the Health & Wellness bucket to align with platform standards, creating a more intuitive configuration access system. The new structure introduces a comprehensive Exposure Setup permission that grants access to Field Management capabilities including Custom Fields and Custom Questions, while maintaining Exposure Type as a separate standalone permission for granular access control.
Why - This enhancement was implemented due to customer request to simplify the permissions architecture and provide administrators with more flexible user role management, allowing field customization access without compromising exposure type governance controls.
How - The updated permissions structure is automatically applied to existing user roles:
Exposure Setup permission now provides access to the complete Exposure Setup section under Health & Wellness
This includes Field Management with Custom Fields and Custom Questions subsections
Exposure Type remains a standalone permission with full create, read, update, and delete capabilities
Administrators can assign Exposure Setup permission for field configuration access
Assign Exposure Type permission separately for users who need to create or modify exposure types
Note: Users can have field customization access without exposure type modification rights
Note: The separation allows for more precise role-based access control
Use Case - A fire department safety officer can be granted Exposure Setup permissions to configure custom questions for chemical exposure documentation and manage field settings without having the ability to create new exposure types like "Radiation Exposure" or "Biological Contamination." Meanwhile, the department administrator retains both Exposure Setup and Exposure Type permissions, allowing them to configure fields and create new exposure categories as operational needs evolve, ensuring proper governance while enabling flexibility for field-level customizations.
