Form Builder - Warning Block

Purpose Statement

The Warning Block feature in Form Builder allows users to add prominent visual alerts and important notices within forms to draw attention to critical information, safety requirements, or compliance notes. This feature enhances form usability by ensuring users see essential warnings before proceeding with data entry, improving accuracy and regulatory compliance.

Background Information

The Warning Block is a versatile form element available across multiple modules including Inspections, Permits, Invoicing and Fire Investigation. This block type displays information in a visually distinct format that stands out from regular form content, making it ideal for highlighting safety protocols, legal requirements, or critical instructions that users must acknowledge or be aware of during form completion. Warning blocks can be customized with rich text formatting and positioned strategically throughout forms.

Best Practices

Content Guidelines:

  • Keep warning text concise but comprehensive
  • Use action-oriented language (e.g., "Ensure," "Verify," "Complete")
  • Include specific consequences or requirements when relevant
  • Reference applicable codes, regulations, or policies

Formatting Recommendations:

  • Use bold text for the most critical information
  • Maintain consistent formatting across all warning blocks
  • Ensure text color provides adequate contrast for accessibility
  • Limit font size variations to maintain professional appearance

Placement Strategy:

  • Position warnings before related form sections
  • Place critical safety warnings at the beginning of forms
  • Use multiple smaller warnings rather than one large block when covering different topics

Troubleshooting & FAQs

Q: The warning block isn't displaying properly in printed forms. A: Check font size and color settings. Ensure colors will print clearly and text size is readable when printed. Test print preview before finalizing.

Q: Can I include multiple warnings in a single block? A: While possible, it's better practice to use separate warning blocks for different topics to improve readability and user comprehension.

Q: The formatting toolbar isn't appearing when I select text. A: Ensure you've clicked directly within the text area of the warning block. If issues persist, refresh the form builder and try again.

Q: How do I copy warning blocks between forms? A: Warning blocks must be recreated in each form. Consider creating a template with standard warnings for consistent use across similar forms.
