Occupancy Icon Settings allow administrators to customize how occupancy icons appear on the Pre-Plan map. By configuring fill color and badge rules, agencies can visually identify occupancies based on operational criteria such as risk classification, property use, occupancy status, or target hazards. These visual indicators help personnel quickly recognize important information during planning and emergency response.

The Occupancy Icon Settings page is part of the Pre-Planning module and requires the Visualization Framework to be enabled before any icon customization can be configured.
Administrators can configure:
- Up to three fill color rules, evaluated in hierarchical order.
- One badge rule to display a red notification badge on occupancy icons based on a predefined condition.
Fill color rules allow occupancies to be color-coded according to operational priorities, while badge rules provide an additional visual indicator for important occupancy conditions.

Step-by-Step Guide
1. Open Occupancy Icon Settings
- Navigate to Main Menu
- Select Pre-Planning.
- Select Occupancy Icon Settings.
- Verify that the Visualization Framework is enabled.
2. Create a Fill Color Rule
- Select Add Fill Rule.
- Choose a display color.
- Select the Operational Meaning.
Available operational meanings include:
- Property Use
- Building Style
- Occupancy Status
- Risk Classification
- Parent vs. Child Occupancy
- Select one or more Matching Values.
- Review the marker preview.
- Select Save.
- Select Save again in the upper-right corner to apply the configuration.
3. Configure Fill Rule Hierarchy
- Add up to three fill color rules.
- Arrange the rules in the desired priority order.
- The system evaluates rules from highest priority to lowest priority.
- Select Save to apply the hierarchy.

Example of a hierarchal set up:
- Rule 1: Risk Classification = Very High
- Rule 2: Property Use = Adult Daycare or Child Care
- Rule 3: Child Occupancy
If an occupancy matches Rule 1, Rules 2 and 3 are ignored. Even if there is matching criteria
If the occupancy doesn't match Rule 1 the system will then move onto Rule 2. If Rule 2 is a match, Rule 2 will be applied and Rule 3 is ignored. Even if there is matching criteria.
4. Edit a Fill Rule
- Select the Pencil icon
- Make the desired changes & Select Save.
- Select Save again in the upper-right corner to apply the updated rule.
5. Delete a Fill Rule
- Select the Trash Can icon.
- Confirm the deletion.
6. Create a Badge Rule
- Navigate to the Badge Rules section.
- Select Add Badge Rule.
- Select one of the available badge conditions:
- Default Behavior
- Pre-Plan Not Completed
- Target Hazard Presence
- If Pre-Plan Not Completed is selected, choose one of the following thresholds:
- Within the last 90 days
- Within the last 180 days
- Within the last year
- Custom date range
- Select Save.
- Select Save again in the upper-right corner to activate the rule.
7. Edit a Badge Rule
- Select the Pencil icon.
- Update the rule.
- Select Save.
- Select Save again in the upper-right corner.
8. Delete a Badge Rule
- Select the Trash Can icon.
- Confirm the deletion.

- Configure fill colors using your agency's operational priorities.
- Place the highest priority conditions at the top of the rule hierarchy.

Why aren't my occupancy icons changing color?
Verify that the Visualization Framework is enabled and that you selected Save after configuring the rule and again after returning to the main Occupancy Icon Settings page.
Why is an occupancy displaying the wrong color?
Review the rule hierarchy. The system evaluates fill rules from highest priority to lowest priority, and the first matching rule determines the icon color.
Can I create more than three fill color rules?
No. A maximum of three fill color rules can be configured.
Can I assign multiple matching values to a rule?
Yes. Some operational meanings, such as Property Use, allow multiple matching values within a single rule.
Can I customize the appearance of badge icons?
No. Badge icons are always displayed as compact red circular indicators. Only the triggering condition can be configured.
Can multiple badge rules be active?
No. Only one badge rule may be configured at any given time.
