Purpose Statement
Global Training Plans allow Admins to enable jurisdiction-specific training plans within First Due, including state-level plans and ISO annual tracking plans. Using a Global Training Plan helps ensure required training areas are not missed when building a plan linked to a credential or when using standardized training plans such as ISO.
Background Information
Global Training Plans are available in the Training Plans area of the Training module. First Due’s Training module supports configurable training plans and requirements, including category- and standard-based tracking.
When a Global Training Plan is enabled, the plan can be reviewed, published, cloned, renamed, and customized for agency use. Any Categories, Topics, or Standards included in the Global Plan are added to the agency’s account when the plan is downloaded.
Global Plans are especially useful for agencies that need to align training documentation with state requirements, ISO annual tracking, credentials, or internal agency training expectations.
Required Permissions
Users must have access to the Training module and the ability to manage Training Plans.
Recommended permission areas to verify include:
- Training module access
- Training Plan view access
- Training Plan create/edit access
- Training Plan delete access, if users need to remove an imported Global Plan
- Credential management access, if the plan will be linked to or managed through Credentials
Permission names may vary by agency configuration. Confirm the exact permission settings in your agency’s First Due permissions configuration before assigning access.

- Navigate to Training > Training Plans.
- Select Enable Global Plans at the top of the Training Plans list.
- In the modal, review the available Global Training Plans.
- Select Filter to search for a specific plan.

- After the plan imports, First Due opens the General area of the plan.
- Review the plan details.
- Update the Plan Year Start Date, if needed.
- Only used if the plan is not linked to a Credential
- Choose whether the plan should be linked to a Credential, if applicable.
- Select Enable to publish the plan.
- Once published, review the plan’s Requirement Areas.
- Edit Requirement Areas as needed to align the plan with your agency’s setup. (See Best Practices for important information regarding editing requirement areas)
- Add members to the plan directly from the Training Plan, or if the plan is linked to a Credential, add members from Manage Credentials.
Best Practices
- Enable the Global Plan first, then clone it and rename the cloned version for your agency’s use.
- Use the cloned version when customizing Requirement Areas so the original imported plan remains available as a reference.
- Review imported Categories, Topics, and Standards before using the plan operationally.
- If your agency already uses existing Categories, Topics, or Standards, update the Requirement Areas to use the agency’s existing setup where appropriate.
- For example, if the Global ISO plan imports a Topic called Facilities Training, but your agency already uses an existing facilities training topic, edit the Requirement Area and replace the imported topic with your agency’s existing topic.
- Confirm the Plan Year Start Date before publishing to ensure annual tracking aligns with the agency’s reporting cycle.
- If the plan is intended to support credential tracking, link it to the appropriate Credential before assigning members.
- Avoid deleting a Global Plan unless you need it to return to the available Global Plans list for download.
Troubleshooting & FAQs
Why can’t I find a Global Plan in the available plans list after importing it?
Once a Global Plan has been imported, it no longer appears in the available list of Global Plans. Deleting it from the Training Plans list view will return it to the available Global Plans list.
Can I edit a Global Training Plan after it is published?
Yes. Once the plan is published, the Requirement Areas are open for editing.
Should I customize the imported Global Plan directly?
As a best practice, enable the Global Plan, clone it, and rename the cloned version for your agency. This is especially important for agencies that need to customize Requirement Areas.
What happens to Categories, Topics, and Standards when a Global Plan is downloaded?
Any Categories, Topics, or Standards used in the Global Plan are added to the agency’s account.
Can members be added from Credentials instead of the Training Plan?
Yes. If the Training Plan is linked to a Credential, members can be added from Manage Credentials.
What should I do if the imported plan uses a Topic my agency does not use?
Edit the Requirement Area and replace the imported Topic with the Topic your agency currently uses.
