Purpose Statement
Global Credentials allow administrators to import pre-built credentials created by First Due into the Training Module. These credentials are built around jurisdiction requirements and help reduce manual setup errors when creating commonly used training credentials.
Importing Global Credentials helps agencies standardize credential tracking, support renewal requirements, and improve accuracy when managing firefighter and EMS training compliance.
Background Information
Global Credentials are available within the Training Module under Credentials. Instead of creating a credential manually, administrators can import an existing credential from the First Due Global Credentials Library.
Once imported, the credential is added to the agency’s credential list. Most imported credential fields are locked to preserve the standardized configuration. However, agencies can link a Training Plan to manage renewal requirements.
If an agency needs to customize the credential beyond the available editable fields, the imported credential can be cloned. Cloning opens the credential fields for editing based on agency-specific needs.
Required Permissions
Users must have access to the Training Module and permission to view and manage Credentials.
Permission names may vary by agency configuration. Confirm that the user’s role includes the appropriate Training and Credential management permissions before attempting to import or edit Global Credentials.

Clone the Credential if Customization Is Needed
If the agency needs to modify locked fields, select the Clone icon from the Actions column.
Cloning the credential creates a copy and opens all fields for editing based on agency needs.
Best Practices
Maintain imported Global Credentials as-is whenever possible. These credentials are created by First Due to align with jurisdiction requirements and reduce the likelihood of configuration errors.
Before cloning a credential, review whether the agency truly needs to customize locked fields. Cloning should be used when agency-specific requirements differ from the imported credential configuration.
Link a Training Plan after importing the credential to ensure renewal requirements are managed accurately.
Avoid deleting imported credentials unless they are no longer needed. Deleting an imported credential from the Credentials list will return it to the Global Credentials Library and make it available for import again.
Review imported credentials regularly to confirm they continue to align with agency, state, or jurisdictional requirements.
Troubleshooting & FAQs
Why do I not see a credential in the Global Credentials import list?
If a Global Credential has already been imported, it will no longer appear in the import list. Review the Credentials list to confirm whether the credential has already been added.
How do I make an imported Global Credential available for import again?
Delete the imported credential from the Credentials list. Once deleted, it will return to the Global Credentials Library and become available in the import list again.
Why are most fields locked when I edit an imported credential?
Imported Global Credentials are locked to preserve the standardized configuration created by First Due. This helps prevent accidental changes to jurisdiction-based credential requirements.
Can I customize an imported Global Credential?
Yes. Select the Clone icon from the Actions column. Cloning creates a copy of the credential and opens all fields for editing.
What should I do after importing a Global Credential?
Open the credential and link a Training Plan if renewal requirements need to be managed through First Due. Select Update after the Training Plan is linked.
Should I edit or clone a Global Credential?
Use the imported Global Credential as-is when possible. Clone the credential only when agency-specific changes are required.
