Purpose Statement
This article explains how to create a Training Plan in the Training module and complete the General Information section. Training Plans help agencies formalize training requirements, define plan cycles, optionally connect training to credentials, and prepare plans for member assignment.
Background Information
Training Plans are used to organize and manage formalized training requirements within the Training module. During setup, users define the core plan details such as the plan name, cycle, credential linkage, start and end dates, and description.
Use this process when:
- Creating a new formalized Training Plan
- Building a plan tied to an existing credential
- Tracking internal agency training requirements without a credential
Required Permissions
Users will need access to the Training Module and to Training Plans. It should also include access to Credentials if the Training Plan being created includes a link to a Credential.

After enabling the toggle, select the appropriate credential from the dropdown list.
This action links the Training Plan to that credential. - Toggle Off:
This creates a Training Plan only, without linking it to a credential.
This option can be used for internal tracking of agency requirements.

After the start date is entered, the Plan Year End Date will auto-populate based on the Plan Cycle selected earlier.
These fields will appear if the Training Plan being created is not linked to a Credential
- Add a description
In the general settings area, enter any relevant Description for the Training Plan.
- Save the plan
Select Save to capture your progress.
Saving opens the Requirements area for editing and allows for Publishing the Training Plane- Publishing the Plan makes it Active in the List view and allows for assigning members
Best Practices
- Use clear, standardized naming conventions for Plan Names so users can quickly identify the purpose of the plan.
- Select the correct Plan Cycle before entering dates to ensure the End Date populates correctly.
- Only link a Training Plan to a credential when that relationship is intentional and already defined in setup.
- Use the description field to explain the scope, purpose, or audience of the plan.
- Save the plan before moving on so the Requirements area becomes available for additional configuration.
- Confirm all settings before selecting Publish, since this the plan for assignment.
