Purpose Statement
The Reverse Event function in the Medications Med Log allows authorized users to correct medication inventory activity by reversing specific transaction types.
This feature ensures accurate medication tracking, supports compliance requirements, and maintains a complete audit trail when an event is entered in error.
Background Information
Within the Medications > Med Log module, users record inventory-related events such as receiving, transferring, removing, or documenting usage of medications.
The following event types can be reversed:
Receive
Transfer
Remove
Usage
Reversing an event does not delete the original record. Instead, it creates a documented reversal entry to maintain audit integrity and controlled substance compliance.
This function is commonly used when:
An incorrect quantity was entered
The wrong medication was selected
A transfer was logged to the wrong location
A usage entry was submitted in error
Required Permissions
Users must have appropriate permissions within the Medications module to reverse events.
Recommended permission access includes:
Medications – View
Medications – Edit
Medications – Manage Med Log
Important Note:
Agencies may restrict reversal capabilities to administrators, supervisors, or designated medication managers.

Troubleshooting & FAQs
Why don’t I see the Reverse icon?
The event type may not be eligible for reversal.
You may not have sufficient permissions.
The event may already be reversed.
Can I edit an event instead of reversing it?
No. For audit and compliance purposes, events must be reversed rather than edited directly.
Does reversing delete the original entry?
No. The original entry remains in the log, and the system records a reversal transaction for full traceability.
Who should be allowed to reverse events?
Best practice is to limit reversal permissions to supervisors, administrators, or designated medication managers.
