Purpose Statement
This article explains how creators and administrators finalize a training once objectives are completed. Properly completing a class ensures training credit is accurately recorded, audit history is preserved, and reports reflect finalized data.
Background Information
After all students have completed their objectives—or objectives have been managed on their behalf—the training class is ready to be recorded as complete. Before finalizing, First Due provides visibility into Class Results and Class Edit Log for review and accountability.
Training completion is a critical step: training credit is not awarded until it is finalized. Depending on permissions and agency workflow, classes may be completed directly or submitted for approval.
Prerequisites:
Objectives completed or managed for all required attendees
Access to the Training Module
Appropriate permissions to complete or submit classes
Required Permissions
Permissions vary by role and agency configuration, but commonly include:
Manage Training Classes – Required to save, complete, or mark classes incomplete
Approve Training Classes – Required if classes must be approved before completion
Print Training Reports – Required to print class rosters
Create Courses – Required to save a class as a course template
Some options may not appear if permissions are not assigned.

Step-by-Step Guide
Review Results and Edit History
Before completing the class, review the following sections:
Result
Displays records for any scored courses.
View-only; no actions can be taken in this section.
Edit Log
Shows who accessed the class and what edits were made.
View-only and useful for auditing and troubleshooting.
Use Training Action Buttons
Above the Training Class sections, up to six action buttons may appear depending on permissions.
Print Class Roster
Select Print.
Choose one of the following:
Print Standard Report
Print Report with Signatures
If users have saved signatures in their profile, signatures appear on the printed report.
This is useful for agencies that require a physical training record in addition to digital storage.
Save as Template (Optional)
Available for training created without a template or changes made to an template
Select Save as Template to create a reusable template.
Attendees are not included—only generic template information is saved.
Save
Select Save to:
Preserve progress
Exit the class
Saving is also required when assigning a class to users so it appears on their dashboard under Active and Upcoming Trainings and created for a future date.
Complete or Submit the Training
Complete
Select Complete (if available).
This finalizes the class and assigns training credit to all students.
Once completed:
The class is closed
No further edits can be made unless reopened
Important:
Even if all objectives are completed, students do not receive credit until Complete is selected.
Submit for Approval
In some workflows, Submit for Approval replaces the Complete button.
Select Submit for Approval.
A notification is sent to a Training Module admin (if notifications are configured).
The admin reviews and completes the class.
Mark Incomplete
Once a training is in Completed status, select Mark Incomplete if changes are required.
This reopens the training for editing.
Critical Note:
Marking a Training as incomplete:
Removes completion records from student training history
Requires the Activity to go through the completion process again
Best Practices
Always review Results before completing scored courses.
Print rosters before completion if physical records are required.
Use Submit for Approval when required to maintain oversight.
Avoid marking as incomplete unless absolutely necessary.
If a training is marked incomplete, re-complete it as soon as possible to restore student credit.
Troubleshooting & FAQs
Why haven’t students received training credit?
The Training has not been completed or approved yet.
Why don’t I see the Complete button?
Your agency may require approval, or your role may not have permission.
Can I edit a Training after it’s completed?
Only by marking it incomplete, which removes student credit.
Does Save finalize the Training?
No. Save only preserves progress. Completion requires Complete or Approval.
