Purpose Statement
Multi-session training allow creators to track training that occurs across multiple sessions within a single day or over multiple days while maintaining a single class record. This approach simplifies administration, ensures consistent attendance tracking, and improves reporting accuracy when the same group of students participates in all sessions.
Background Information
The Multi-Session option is designed for training events that:
Occur multiple times in one day (for example, morning and afternoon sessions)
Span multiple consecutive or non-consecutive days
When using the multi-session option, all sessions share the same student roster. If different students attend different sessions, those trainings must be created and managed individually rather than as a multi-session.
If your agency uses First Due’s Scheduling Module, rotation colors will display above each session day to provide additional scheduling context.
Required Permissions
The following permissions are typically required:
Create Training Classes – Required to create and configure classes
Manage Training Classes – Required to edit sessions, times, and associated details
View Scheduling Data – Required to see rotation colors (if the Scheduling Module is enabled)
Permission availability may vary by role.

Step-by-Step Guide
Set the Training Dates
Create or open a training class.
Enter an Actual Start Date and Actual End Date.
The Duration field will auto populate initially based upon the dates selected but will auto-adjust when times are entered into the different session fields
Enable the Multi-Session toggle.
Once enabled, the individual date(s) for the training appear below.
If the Scheduling Module is active, rotation colors display above each day.
Once the "Allow Multi-Session" toggle is activated Locations, Apparatus and Assets in the main body of the training class are no longer editable. These are fields you will manage for each session.
Configure Individual Sessions
Select a specific day to open the session configuration panel.
For each session, enter:
Start Time
End Time
Optionally associate:
Apparatus - Please see the article on Apparatus Booking for the workflow associated with this action
Assets
Locations
These associations are for reporting and tracking only and do not affect attendance or class content.
Add or Remove Sessions
Select the plus (+) icon to add an additional session for the selected day.
Select the trash icon to remove a session or an entire day.
Example use case:
A single-day class with two sessions:
Session 1: 08:00–12:00
Session 2: 13:00–17:00
This allows the system to accurately reflect time spent in training.
Complete Remaining Training Details
Finish configuring all other class information as you would for a standard training:
Courses
Attendance
Completion settings
Attachments and administrative details
Save the training and proceed with normal completion and approval workflows.
Best Practices
Use multi-session only when the same students attend every session.
Accurately enter session start and end times to ensure correct duration calculations.
Use multiple sessions to reflect real training breaks instead of extending a single session.
Review session details before completing the class to ensure accurate reporting.
Avoid deleting sessions after attendance has been recorded unless absolutely necessary.
Troubleshooting & FAQs
Why can’t I use a multi-session class for different groups of students?
Multi-session trainings share one roster across all sessions. Different rosters require separate training entries.
Do session-level apparatus or locations change the roster?
No. These associations are for reporting and tracking only.
Why do I see colors above each day?
These represent rotations from the Scheduling Module, if enabled.
Does adding sessions automatically change class duration?
Duration is calculated based on session start and end times and can be adjusted if needed.
