New Features
1. Custody Exchange Event for Medications
What - Introduced a comprehensive Chain of Custody event system for controlled substance (CS) kits that standardizes custody transfer procedures between paramedic personnel during shift transitions. The system enforces possession-based access control where only the user with current kit possession can access medication events, includes Override Custody and Retain Custody functions with specific permission requirements, and integrates with count scheduling to automate custody exchange requirements.
Why - This new feature was developed due to customer request to maintain strict security protocols and accountability for controlled substances by ensuring only authorized personnel with current possession can access CS kit medication events, preventing accidental entries by other users while providing comprehensive audit trails of all custody transfers and controlled substance handling.
How - Configure and use Custody Exchange functionality:
Use Case - During shift change at 7:00 AM, off-going Paramedic Johnson uses Custody Exchange to transfer possession of CS Kit 3 containing morphine and fentanyl to incoming Paramedic Williams, with both providers signing electronically to document the transfer. Williams now has exclusive access to perform medication events on CS Kit 3, while Johnson can no longer access the kit's medication functions. If Williams needs to temporarily transfer the kit mid-shift to Paramedic Chen who lacks normal custody permissions, a supervisor with Possession - Override permission can authorize the transfer, maintaining complete audit trails showing Johnson → Williams → Chen custody chain for regulatory compliance and controlled substance accountability during DEA audits.

Enhancements
1. Pre-Generated Serial Numbers Display in Med Receive Process
What - Enhanced the medication receive process to display pre-generated serial numbers before completion and signing, allowing users to preview and verify the exact serial numbers that will be assigned to received medications. The system supports both global serial number configuration and medication-specific numbering with dynamic updates when quantities change, while enforcing a 20-character maximum limit across all serial number components.
Why - This enhancement was implemented due to customer request to improve medication tracking accuracy and transparency by showing the exact serial numbers that will be assigned during the receive process, enabling verification before final submission and reducing errors in medication inventory documentation.
How - Configure and use pre-generated serial number display:
Setup Configuration (Medication → Setup → Settings):
Configure AUTONUMBER, CUSTOM FIXED TEXT, and MED SHORTCODE sections
Combined length cannot exceed 20 characters
Medication Short Code and Set Default Shortcode:
Allow letters, numbers, "-" and "_" characters only
Special characters not permitted
Medication Configuration (Medication → Setup → Medication → Add/Edit):
Preview Functionality in Receive Event:
Preview button appears when medication requires serial number
Not displayed if medication has no specific serial number and global setting is inactive
Click Preview to display corresponding serial numbers
Dynamic updates: If quantity changes after preview, serial numbers update automatically without clicking Preview again
Serial Number Generation Logic:
Medications with specific configuration: Maintain independent numbering from global counter
Medications with Short Code and Last Serial Number: Generate based on that configuration even with global generator active
Specific generator: Replaces global generator only for configured medication
Pre-generated numbers: Match exactly those assigned upon completion and signing
Edit capability: Serial numbers can be edited before completing receipt, modified values save correctly
Validation:
Use Case - Pharmacy coordinators receiving a shipment of 50 epinephrine auto-injectors can click the Preview button to verify that serial numbers EPI-001 through EPI-050 will be assigned before completing the receive process, allowing them to cross-reference the serial numbers with the vendor's packing slip and catch any configuration errors or numbering gaps before finalizing the receipt, ensuring accurate inventory tracking and preventing medication accountability issues during future audits.
2. Med Log to Include Serial and Lot Number Filters
What - Added serial number and lot number filtering capabilities to medication logs with free-text search fields that support partial matches and case-insensitive searching, enabling users to locate specific medication batches and individual medication units without format restrictions or dropdown limitations.
Why - This enhancement was implemented due to customer request to improve medication tracking and recall response capabilities by enabling quick location of specific medication lots or serial numbers within logs, supporting quality assurance investigations, medication recalls, and regulatory compliance documentation.
How - Use serial and lot number filters in medication logs:
Navigate to Medication Logs view
Locate Serial Number and Lot filter fields
Enter search criteria:
Free-text entry: No dropdown or format restrictions
Partial matching: Returns results containing part of entered text
Case-insensitive: Ignores uppercase/lowercase differences
Filter displays matching medication log entries
Combine with other filters for refined searches
Clear filters to reset search
Use Case - Quality assurance coordinators responding to a manufacturer recall for epinephrine lot number "ABC123X" can enter "ABC123" in the lot number filter to immediately identify all medication events involving that lot across all kits and locations, generating a complete list of which units received the affected medication, when it was administered, and to which patients, enabling rapid notification of medical directors and patient follow-up while documenting compliance with recall procedures for regulatory reporting requirements.
