New Features
1. Importing NFIRS/NERIS Data into Exposures
What - A new "Import Fire Report Data" feature has been added to the Exposures module, enabling users to import and map fire report data directly into exposure records with comprehensive search and filtering capabilities. The system provides a modal interface displaying fire reports with customizable search periods, data preview functionality, and field mapping that automatically populates exposure forms with incident details including date/time, location information, and injured firefighter personnel data from the People Involved section.
Why - This enhancement was implemented due to customer request to streamline exposure documentation by eliminating duplicate data entry when creating exposure records for incidents that already have corresponding fire reports, improving workflow efficiency and ensuring data consistency between incident reporting and exposure tracking systems.
How - Fire report data import is accessible through enhanced Exposures interface with comprehensive selection and mapping capabilities:
Click "Import Fire Report Data" button to access the fire report selection modal
Use search filters including Search Period (Today & Yesterday default, with options for This Week, Last 24 Hours, custom ranges up to Last Year), Incident Number, Location, and Status (Incomplete, Pending Authorization, Authorized)
Review fire reports displayed with Location, Incident Date/Time, Incident No., Officer In Charge, and Status columns
Select desired fire report to view data preview modal showing Incident Date & Time, Address Lines 1 & 2, City, State, Zip Code, and Personnel from Injured Firefighter section
Edit data if needed and select personnel to add to the exposure record
Save to automatically map and populate data into Exposure form using predefined field mapping
Note: Personnel data comes specifically from Injured Firefighter section under People Involved
Note: Field mapping includes PSAP Call to Incident Date & Time, location fields to Information section addresses, and personnel to Exposure Personnel
Use Case - After a warehouse fire where three firefighters sustained injuries from chemical exposure, an exposure coordinator can use "Import Fire Report Data" to locate the original incident report filed by the incident commander, review the incident details including the warehouse address and injured personnel (Captain Smith, Firefighter Jones, and Firefighter Wilson), then import this information directly into a new exposure record. This eliminates manually re-entering the incident date, location details, and injured personnel information, ensuring consistency between the original fire report and the exposure documentation while reducing data entry time and potential transcription errors.
Enhancements
1. Personnel Info - Apply All - Include Attachments
What - The Apply To feature in the Exposures module has been enhanced to include an optional attachment copying capability when replicating personnel exposure data across multiple records. The system provides smart copy handling to prevent duplication, maintains attachment independence between source and destination records, and supports efficient processing of large files while allowing users to selectively include attachments in the data replication process.
Why - This enhancement was implemented due to customer request to reduce manual entry and ensure more complete data replication when copying personnel exposure information, eliminating the need to separately attach the same documents to multiple personnel records and improving workflow efficiency for exposure documentation processes.
How - Enhanced Apply To functionality provides optional attachment copying through improved interface controls:
Access Apply To feature in Exposures module and locate "Include attachments in the copy" checkmark option
Checkmark OFF: Feature behaves as previously, copying personnel data without attachments
Checkmark ON: Attachments from source personnel record are copied to destination personnel records
Smart copy handling prevents duplication when applying the same record multiple times
Copied attachments remain independent - modifications to source attachments do not affect destination records
Adding new attachments to source and reapplying adds new attachments without removing existing ones
View all copied attachments in Attachments Logs tab for tracking and verification
Note: System handles large files efficiently to maintain performance during copy operations
Note: Feature supports copying multiple attachments to multiple personnel records simultaneously
Use Case - When documenting a hazardous material exposure incident affecting five firefighters, an exposure coordinator can create the detailed exposure record for the first firefighter including medical evaluation forms, safety data sheets, and incident photos, then use Apply To with "Include attachments in the copy" enabled to replicate all exposure data and supporting documents to the remaining four firefighters. This eliminates the need to manually attach the same safety data sheets and incident documentation to each individual exposure record, while maintaining independent attachment management so updates to one firefighter's medical forms don't affect the others' records.

2. Change Exposure Route to be Multi Select
What - The Exposure Route field for both Chemical and Biological exposures has been converted from single-selection to multi-selection capability, enabling users to document multiple exposure pathways for a single incident. The enhancement includes comprehensive data migration to preserve existing single-select data within the new multi-select format while expanding documentation capabilities for complex exposure scenarios.
Why - This enhancement was implemented due to customer request to accommodate realistic exposure scenarios where personnel may experience multiple simultaneous exposure routes, such as both inhalation and dermal contact during hazardous material incidents, providing more accurate and comprehensive exposure documentation capabilities.
How - Multi-select exposure route functionality is automatically available in enhanced exposure documentation:
Access Chemical or Biological exposure documentation forms
Exposure Route field now supports selection of multiple exposure pathways simultaneously
Choose applicable routes such as inhalation, dermal contact, ingestion, and ocular exposure as appropriate
Data migration automatically converted existing single-select entries to multi-select format
Note: Enhancement applies to both Chemical and Biological exposure types
Note: Existing exposure records maintain their original route selections within the new multi-select system
Note: Users can now accurately document complex exposure scenarios involving multiple pathways
Use Case - A firefighter exposed to hazardous chemicals during a warehouse fire can now have their exposure documented with multiple routes selected: "Inhalation" from breathing contaminated air despite respiratory protection, "Dermal" from chemical contact on unprotected skin areas, and "Ocular" from eye irritation during decontamination procedures. Previously, documentation would have required selecting only the primary exposure route, potentially underrepresenting the full scope of the exposure incident for medical tracking and worker safety analysis purposes.

3. Custom Question Handling When Custom Exposure Types Are Deleted
What - The system has been enhanced to preserve historical data integrity by preventing deletion of custom questions and exposure types that are in use, ensuring that previously documented exposure information remains accessible for audit and analysis purposes. The enhancement implements selective deletion logic that allows removal of unused custom questions and exposure types while blocking deletion attempts for items with historical usage, aligning with existing behavior in Fire Department and Investigations modules.
Why - This enhancement was implemented due to customer request to maintain historical reference and prevent data gaps that previously occurred when deleting custom questions removed both the question and answer from the database, potentially compromising exposure tracking records and audit trail integrity for personnel safety documentation.
How - Enhanced deletion protection is automatically applied based on custom question usage status:
Custom Questions in use cannot be deleted, protecting both the question and its associated Exposure Type from removal
Custom Questions not in use can be safely deleted along with their associated Exposure Type
Usage determination includes both saved exposure records and unsaved exposure selections to prevent accidental data loss
Deletion blocking maintains historical accuracy and prevents gaps in exposure documentation
Consistent system behavior aligns with existing FD and Investigations module deletion logic
Note: System evaluates usage before allowing any deletion attempts to proceed
Note: Historical data preservation ensures audit trail continuity for personnel safety tracking
Note: Enhancement prevents accidental removal of exposure documentation used for compliance purposes
Use Case - A fire department that created a custom exposure type "Wildfire Smoke Exposure" with associated custom questions like "Duration of exposure to particulate matter" cannot accidentally delete this exposure type after documenting 15 firefighters' exposures during wildfire season, preserving all historical exposure data for medical tracking and compliance reporting. However, if they create a new custom exposure type "Chemical Plant Emergency" with specific questions but never use it for actual incident documentation, they can safely delete both the custom questions and exposure type without affecting any existing records or creating system inconsistencies.
