Form Builder - Delimiter

Form Builder - Delimiter

Purpose Statement

The delimiter feature in Form Builder allows users to add visual spacing and organization between form blocks, creating cleaner, more readable forms. This feature enhances form layout by providing clear separation between different sections of content, improving user experience when completing inspections, permits, invoicing and fire investigation forms.

Background Information

Delimiters are visual separators that help organize form content by creating distinct spaces between form blocks. They are particularly useful when creating complex forms with multiple sections that need clear visual separation. This feature is available across all Form Builder applications including Inspections, Permits, Invoicing and Fire Investigation modules. Proper use of delimiters improves form readability and helps users navigate through lengthy forms more efficiently.

Required Permissions

Best Practices

  • Use delimiters strategically to group related form fields together
  • Avoid overusing delimiters as too many can create excessive white space
  • Place delimiters before major section changes rather than between every block
  • Consider the form's overall flow when deciding delimiter placement
  • Test the form layout on different devices to ensure delimiter spacing works effectively
  • Use delimiters to separate mandatory sections from optional sections

Troubleshooting & FAQs

Q: The delimiter doesn't appear when I hover over the left margin A: Ensure you're hovering directly over the left margin area of an existing form block. The "+" sign only appears when positioned correctly.

Q: Can I remove a delimiter after adding it? A: Yes, delimiters can be deleted like other form elements by selecting the delimiter and using the delete option.

Q: Do delimiters affect form functionality? A: No, delimiters are purely visual elements and do not impact form data collection or submission functionality.

Q: Can I add multiple delimiters in a row? A: While technically possible, multiple consecutive delimiters are not recommended as they create excessive spacing.
