Business Portal - View Permit Details

Business Portal - View Permit Details

Purpose Statement

The permit review feature allows business portal users to view comprehensive details about permits their business has requested, including contact information, status history, and invoice management capabilities. This read-only interface provides transparency into permit processing while enabling users to download permit documents and manage invoice payments efficiently.

Background Information

Business portal users need visibility into their permit requests throughout the entire lifecycle, from submission to approval. This feature provides access to the same detailed information that Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) staff can view, but in a read-only format appropriate for business users. The interface includes tabbed sections for organized information access, with specific functionality for downloading permit forms and managing invoice payments.
This feature integrates with existing permit data structures and maintains security controls to ensure businesses can only access their own permit information. The system displays permits across all statuses, providing complete transparency into the permit review process.

Required Permissions

Users must have valid Business Portal authentication and access permissions to view permits associated with their business account.

Best Practices

Do:

Review all tabs to get complete permit information before contacting AHJ staff with questions
Use the History tab to understand the current status and any required actions
Download and save important permit documents and invoices for your records
Check contact information to ensure you have the right people to reach out to if needed

Don't:

Expect to edit any information from the Business Portal (all views are read-only)
Assume permit forms are available for all statuses (only "Active" and "Approved" permits show the View Permit Form button)
Close invoice payment tabs before completing transactions

Tips:

All information loads within 3 seconds for optimal performance
Error messages match those shown to AHJ users for consistency
Use the chronological History view to track permit progress over time
Primary contacts are your main point of contact for permit-related questions

Troubleshooting & FAQs

Q: I don't see the "View Permit Form" button on my permit. Why?
A: The "View Permit Form" button only appears for permits with "Active" or "Approved" status. Permits with other statuses (pending, rejected, etc.) will not display this option.

Q: The Contacts tab shows "No contacts have been added to this permit." Is this an error?
A: No, this message appears when no contacts have been associated with the permit yet. Contact your AHJ if you believe contacts should be listed.

Q: Can I edit any of the permit information I see?
A: No, all permit information in the Business Portal is read-only. You cannot modify contacts, history, or other permit details through this interface.

Q: The invoice download isn't working. What should I do?
A: Ensure your browser allows pop-ups from the Business Portal site. The invoice PDF opens in a new tab, which may be blocked by pop-up blockers.

Q: Information is taking longer than expected to load. Is this normal?
A: All tabs and actions should load within 3 seconds. If loading takes longer, try refreshing the page or contact technical support.

Q: I see an error message when trying to view permit details. What does this mean?
A: Error messages in the Business Portal match those shown to AHJ users. If you encounter persistent errors, contact your system administrator or the permitting authority.

Q: Can I see permits from other businesses I'm associated with?
A: No, the Business Portal only displays permits specifically associated with your current business account for security purposes.
