Purpose Statement
Pinning a Training template to a user’s dashboard gives quick access to templates they use regularly. This helps reduce time spent searching through the Template Library and supports consistent completion of recurring training activities, such as company training scenarios or daily physical fitness.
Pinned templates appear directly on the Training dashboard for selected users, making frequently used templates easier to find and complete.
Background Information
Templates are managed from the Training Module within the Template Library. Users with the proper permissions can pin a template to one or more user dashboards.
Common use cases include:
- Regular company training scenarios
- Daily physical fitness templates
- Recurring EMS, fire, or rescue training activities
- Department-wide or group-specific training assignments
While a user with the appropriate permissions can pin a template to another user’s dashboard, the end user must still have permission to access and use the template.
Required Permissions
Users must have access to the Training Module and the appropriate permissions to manage or pin templates from the Template Library.

Step-by-Step Guide
Pin a Template to a User Dashboard
Navigate to the Training Module and select Training Templates
Locate the template that needs to be pinned.
In the Actions column, select the Pin icon.
A modal will open with a list of available users.
Use the filter options at the top of the modal to narrow the list of available users.
Available filters may include:
- Schedule Date / From Scheduler
- Group
- Qualifier
- Other user or personnel-related filters
Note: Schedule Date / From Scheduler, Group, and Qualifier depend on agency use of First Due’s Schedule Module. Other dropdown options originate from Admin or Personnel areas.
Select users from the left side of the modal.
To select all filtered users, choose the option to include all.
Confirm that selected users appear on the right side of the modal.
Select Save.
Once saved, the pinned template will appear in the middle of the selected users’ Training Dashboard.
Managing or Removing Users from a Pinned Template
Navigate to the Training Module.
Select Template Library.
Use the available filters to locate a template that has already been pinned.
In the Actions column, select the Unlink icon.
Note: Templates that have already been pinned display an unlink icon instead of the pin icon.
The same modal used during the initial pinning process will open.
To add users, select additional members from the left side of the modal.
To remove users, select their name from the right side of the modal.
Select Save when finished.
Best Practices
- Pin templates that users access frequently, such as recurring company training or daily physical fitness templates.
- Use filters before selecting users to avoid pinning templates to the wrong personnel.
- Confirm users have permission to use the template before pinning it to their dashboard.
- Review pinned templates periodically to ensure they are still relevant.
- Remove users from pinned templates when their role, assignment, or training requirements change.
- Avoid pinning too many templates, as this may make the Training dashboard harder to navigate.
Troubleshooting & FAQs
Why can’t a user see the pinned template on their dashboard?
Confirm the template was pinned to the correct user and that Save was selected. Also verify the user has permission to access and use the template.
Why are some users missing from the Available list?
Check the filters applied at the top of the modal. Schedule, group, qualifier, personnel, or admin-based filters may limit which users appear.
What does the unlink icon mean?
The unlink icon indicates that the template has already been pinned. Selecting it allows users to manage or remove users from the pinned template.
Can I pin a template to multiple users at once?
Yes. Users can be selected individually, or the option to include all filtered users can be selected.
Can I remove a template from only one user’s dashboard?
Yes. Open the pinned template using the unlink icon, then remove the user from the selected list on the right side of the modal and select Save.
Do pinned templates override permissions?
No. Pinning a template gives users quick access from the dashboard, but users still need the appropriate permissions to use the template.
