Purpose Statement
This article explains how to navigate and use the Med Kit List within the Medications module. The Med Kit List provides a centralized location for users to view, search, filter, organize, and manage Med Kits across their organization.
Background Information
The Med Kit List is the primary management interface for medication kits configured in the system. From this page, users can review Med Kit information and status, select and manage List Views, search and filter kits, perform individual or bulk actions, create new Med Kits, and export list data.
The Med Kit List also displays information related to each kit, including its controlled substance designation, operational status, placement, Out of Service (OOS) reason, archive status, and other configured details.
Required Permissions
Users must have appropriate permissions within the Medications module to access the Med Kit List.
Some functionality within the Med Kit List, including creating, editing, or cloning Custom Views, is permissions-based. Available actions may vary depending on the permissions assigned to the user's role.

- From the Medications module, select the First Due logo in the upper-left corner.
- Select Med Kit List.
The Med Kit List opens using the view currently set as your default.
2. Select, Favorite, or Pin a View

- Favorite Views - Views marked as favorite with the Star icon
- Predefined Views – Views provided by First Due
- Custom Views – Views created by your organization

Use the Star icon to favorite a view. Favoriting a view adds it to your Favorite Views for your user account.
Use the Pin icon to set a view as your default. The pinned view automatically displays when you access the Med Kit List.
Favorites and default view selections apply to your individual user account.
3. Manage Custom Views
Select the Ellipsis (⋯) next to the view selector to access available Custom View options, including adding, editing, or cloning a Custom View.
These options are permissions-based and may not be available to all users.
Important Note:
See the article on Medications: Creating Custom List Views to learn more about creating and managing Custom Views.
4. Organize and Sort Columns
Use the column headers to adjust how information is displayed.
- Drag and drop supported columns to temporarily rearrange them.
- Select a column title to apply a sort order.
- Select the column title again to reverse the sort order.
- Continue selecting the column title to return it to its default sorting state.
Columns with a Pin icon cannot be rearranged.
5. Search for a Med Kit
Use the Magnifying Glass icon to perform a keyword search when you need to locate a specific Med Kit.
Enter the applicable search criteria to narrow the displayed list.
6. Filter the Med Kit List
Select Filter to narrow the list using the available filter options.
Filters can be used to locate kits based on information such as:
- Kit details
- Kit type
- Placement
- Status
- Other available Med Kit fields
Use the available options to Apply or Reset your filters as needed.
7. Pin the Filter Panel
Select the Pin icon within the filter panel to keep the filters accessible while adjusting the Med Kit List layout.
Pinning the panel allows you to continue viewing and accessing the available Actions while applying or resetting filters.
8. Use Bulk Actions
Bulk action options are available across the top of the Med Kit List for performing actions on multiple kits.
Select the applicable Med Kits using their checkboxes before choosing the appropriate bulk operation.
Important Note:
See the article on Bulk Operations for Med Kit Management for instructions on using bulk actions.
9. Create a New Med Kit
Select + Med Kit to begin creating a new Med Kit.
Important Note:
See the article on Creating Med Kits and Pouches for instructions on creating and configuring a new Med Kit.
10. Review Med Kit Type and Status
The Med Kit List uses visual indicators to provide information about individual kits.
Color-coded icons identify whether a kit is associated with:
- CS – Controlled Substances
- Non-CS – Non-Controlled Substances
The list also displays whether a Med Kit is currently In Service or Out of Service.
When applicable, an Out of Service Reason may also be associated with the kit.
11. Access Individual Med Kit Actions
Use the Actions column to manage an individual Med Kit.
Select the Ellipsis (⋮) for a Med Kit to access additional available actions. Depending on the Med Kit and your permissions, actions can include:
- Pencil icon – Edit the Med Kit
- Trashcan icon – Delete the Med Kit
- X icon – Deactivate the Med Kit
- Checkmark icon – Reactivate a deactivated Med Kit
- Duplicate icon – Duplicate the Med Kit
- Archive icon – Archive the Med Kit
The actions available for deleting and archiving Med Kits are different. See Step 12 or Step 15 below for additional information.
12. Delete a Med Kit
Select the Trashcan icon for the applicable Med Kit and confirm the deletion when prompted.
If the Med Kit contains current medication inventory, the kit cannot be deleted. After confirming the action, an error notification displays indicating that the Med Kit was not deleted because inventory remains associated with it.
The existing inventory must be moved from the Med Kit before attempting to delete the kit again.
Important Note:
If any selected Med Kit contains current inventory, that specific Med Kit cannot be deleted.
When historical Med Kit records should be retained, archive the kit instead of deleting it.
13. Deactivate or Reactivate a Med Kit
Select the X icon to deactivate an active Med Kit. A confirmation prompt appears before the Med Kit is deactivated.
Once a Med Kit is deactivated, the Checkmark icon becomes available. Select the Checkmark to reactivate the Med Kit.
Activation status controls whether the Med Kit is available within the end-user view for applicable inventory workflows.
14. Duplicate a Med Kit
Use the Duplicate action when you need to create another Med Kit based on an existing kit.
Duplicating can be especially useful when creating multiple Med Kits that require identical or similar configurations.
Important Note:
See the article on Bulk Operations for Med Kit Management to learn how to duplicate Med Kits.
15. Archive a Med Kit
Select the Archive icon when a Med Kit should be removed from active use while retaining its records.
Archiving is recommended instead of deleting when historical Med Kit information needs to remain accessible.
If the applicable List View is configured to display archived Med Kits, archived kits remain visible in the Med Kit List. When an archived Med Kit is displayed:
- The Status column displays the date the Med Kit was last edited.
- The Is Archived column indicates that the Med Kit is archived.
- The Actions column only allows the Med Kit to be deleted. Other Med Kit actions are no longer available.
Archived Med Kits can be located using an applicable Custom View or filters that include archived kits.
Important Note:
See the article on Bulk Operations for Med Kit Management for information on archiving med kits in bulk using the Bulk Actions workflow.
See the article on Medications: Creating Custom List Views for information about creating and managing Custom Views, including views that display archived Med Kits.
16. Adjust Pagination
If your organization has a large number of Med Kits, use the pagination options at the bottom of the Med Kit List to adjust how many kits are displayed at one time or to navigate between pages.
17. Export the Med Kit List
Use the CSV download option to export the displayed Med Kit List.
The export can be used as an ad hoc reporting option. For example, you can configure a List View to display your organization's controlled substance Med Kits and then download that list as a CSV file for reporting or review.

Best Practices
- Favorite frequently used List Views to make them easier to locate.
- Pin the List View you use most often so it automatically displays when you access the Med Kit List.
- Use filters and Custom Views to quickly locate specific groups of Med Kits.
- Use sorting and column rearrangement to prioritize the information most relevant to your workflow.
- Use duplication when creating multiple identical or similarly configured Med Kits.
- Archive Med Kits instead of deleting them when historical records should be retained.
- Remember that archived Med Kits can be displayed through applicable List Views or filters, but their only available action is Delete.
- Delete Med Kits with caution because deletion is permanent.
- Move any current medication inventory before attempting to delete a Med Kit.
- Configure the list using the appropriate view, search, filters, and sorting options before exporting to CSV when you need an ad hoc report.
Troubleshooting & FAQs
Why does the Med Kit List always open to a specific view?
That view is likely pinned as your default. Select a different view and use the Pin icon if you want to change the List View that automatically displays when you access the Med Kit List.
Why don't my favorite or pinned view selections affect other users?
Favorite and pinned view selections are specific to your individual user account.
Why can't I add, edit, or clone a Custom View?
Custom View management is permissions-based. Your assigned permissions may not allow you to perform these actions.
Why can't I rearrange the Kit Name column?
The Kit Name column is pinned and cannot be rearranged. Other supported columns can be temporarily repositioned by dragging and dropping them.
Why can't I delete a Med Kit?
A Med Kit with current medication inventory cannot be deleted. Move the inventory from the Med Kit before attempting the deletion again.
What is the difference between deactivating and archiving a Med Kit?
Deactivating a Med Kit removes it from the end-user view for applicable inventory workflows but allows it to be reactivated later.
Archiving removes the Med Kit from active use while retaining its records. If an archived Med Kit is displayed in an applicable List View, its only available action is Delete.
Should I delete or archive a Med Kit that is no longer needed?
Archive the Med Kit when its historical records should remain accessible. Deleting a Med Kit is permanent and should be performed with caution.
How can I find an archived Med Kit?
Archived Med Kits can be displayed when the applicable List View or filters are configured to include archived kits. When displayed, an archived Med Kit shows its last edited date in the Status column, is identified as archived in the Is Archived column, and only provides the Delete action.
Why can't I edit or perform other actions on an archived Med Kit?
Archived Med Kits only provide the Delete action from the Med Kit List. Edit and other Med Kit management actions are not available for archived kits.
How can I create several identical Med Kits?
Use the duplication functionality to create Med Kits based on an existing kit. This is useful when multiple Med Kits require the same or similar configurations.
How can I export a specific group of Med Kits?
Configure the Med Kit List using the appropriate List View, search, filters, and sorting options, and then use the CSV download option to export the displayed list.
