Purpose Statement
This article explains how to create a recurring event in the Events & Activities module so you can schedule repeating activities (monthly meetings, quarterly training, annual inspections, etc.) without creating each event manually.
Background Information
Recurring Events allow you to define an event series using a recurrence type (Custom, Monthly, Quarterly, Semi-Annually, Annually). When recurrence is enabled:
Start Date represents the first day of the event series.
End Date represents the last day of the event series.
The system generates event occurrences based on the recurrence rules you select.
Common use cases
Monthly meetings (e.g., 2nd and 4th Sunday)
Quarterly training cycles
Semi-annual equipment checks
Annual compliance events
Required Permissions
To create a recurring event, users typically need:
Events & Activities Module access
Daily Operations access
Create/Add Event permission (or equivalent “Create” permission within Events & Activities)
If your agency uses role-based access, confirm the user role includes event creation rights for the Events & Activities module.

Step-by-Step Guide
Open Events & Activities
Navigate to Events & Activities.
Select Daily Operations.
Start a New Event
In the list view, select the Actions dropdown.
Choose Add New Event or Add From Event Template
Enter Event Details
Complete all relevant event fields (title, location, start/end date & time, and any required details).
Locate and enable the toggle Is Recurrent Event.
Choose a Recurrence Type
After enabling Is Recurrent Event, a dropdown appears below the End Date and Time field.
Select one of the following recurrence types:
Day
Week
Month
Year
Custom
Custom Month
Determine whether or not to set an End Date - Although "No End Date" may be selected, due to system performance, the max timeframe for no End Date is 2 years
Important Note:
After selecting Recurrent Event, the Start Date and End Date refer to the start and end of the series. Recurrence Type will dictate the actual start and end date upon saving.
Configure Custom Recurrence (If Selected)
Select Custom to open the recurrence calendar.
Choose a cycle length from 1 to 31 days.
Select the day(s) in the cycle when the event should occur.
The selected number represents the number of days beginning with the Start Date (it does not mean “day of the month”).
Determine the End Date
On a Specific Date
After a predetermined number of instances
After 2 Years
No End Date - Reminder system performance limits the user to 2 years of events
Example
Start Date: March 2, 2026
Cycle Length: 7 days
Selected Day in Cycle: Day 7
First occurrence: March 8, 2026
Configure Custom Monthly Recurrence (If Selected)
Select Custom to open additional options below.
Choose which day(s) of the week the event will occur (example: Sunday).
Use the dropdown below each selected day to choose which occurrence in the month it should run (example: 2nd Sunday, 4th Sunday).
If the event occurs multiple times in a month (example: 2nd and 4th Sunday), select both options.
Save the Recurring Event
Confirm all required fields are complete.
Select Save to create the recurring event series.
Best Practices
Set clear series boundaries: Use the Start Date as the first event in the series and the End Date as the last to prevent unwanted future occurrences.
Use Custom cycles for rotating schedules: Custom is ideal for patterns like “every 7 days” or “every 10 days,” especially when it’s not tied to a specific weekday.
Use Monthly for “nth weekday” scheduling: Monthly is best for patterns like “2nd Tuesday” or “1st and 3rd Friday.”
Double-check time windows: Ensure Start/End Date & Time reflect the intended duration for each occurrence.
Name events consistently: Include the purpose and recurrence pattern (e.g., “Training Night (2nd & 4th Sunday)”).
Troubleshooting & FAQs
I don’t see the “Is Recurrent Event” toggle.
Your user role may not have permission to create recurring events, or you may not be in the correct event creation form. Verify you started from Daily Operations > Actions > Add New Event and confirm your permissions.
My Custom event isn’t landing on the day I expected.
In Custom, the day number is counted starting from the Start Date (it is not “day of the month”). Re-check your Start Date and the cycle day(s) you selected.
Why did my Start Date change after saving?
After saving, the system populates the Start Date field with the first occurrence date of the series.
How do I schedule an event on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of every month?
Choose Monthly, select Sunday, then use the dropdown to select 2nd Sunday and 4th Sunday.
