Purpose Statement
This article explains how to remove medications from Med Supply or Med Kits. The Remove workflow allows users to document when medication inventory is taken out of a supply location or kit, record the reason for removal, and complete the action with any required comments, attachments, and signature.
Background Information
Medication removal is used when inventory must be taken out of service from a Med Supply location or a Med Kit. This may include expired medications, damaged inventory, administrative adjustments, or other agency-defined reasons.
The workflow allows users to narrow the removal to specific medications, forms, and expiration dates so only the intended inventory is removed. Agencies that require serial number tracking can also document the exact units being removed.
Required Permissions
Users must have appropriate permissions within the Medications module to remove medications.
Typical permissions may include:
Medications Module Access
Remove Medication permissions
Med Supply access
Med Kit access
Signature permissions, based on agency configuration
Permission availability may vary based on department setup.

Troubleshooting & FAQs
Why are all medications showing in the workflow?
If you do not preselect or refine medications before starting the removal, the workflow may display all medications from the selected location.
Can I remove only one form or expiration date of a medication?
Yes. You can refine the selection by choosing a specific Medication Form and Expiration Date.
Why do I need to select serial numbers?
If your agency tracks medications by serial number, the system requires you to identify the exact units being removed.
Why do I need to enter a reason and comments?
Reasons and comments help maintain accurate inventory records and provide justification for removal actions.
What file types can be attached?
The system accepts JPEG, PNG, and PDF files, with a maximum of 5 files up to 15 MB each.
