Purpose
To provide the Incident Type (CAD to Fire Incident) Mapping Template and instructions for use.
Overview
The Incident Type (CAD to NFIRS) Mapping Template is designed to assist in the auto-population of Fire incident types in your incident report when the CAD incident type dispatch codes are different than the NFIRS incident type codes. For example:
- Your CAD may assign a chest pain incident the code "CHSTPAIN". Since there is no exact match in NFIRS for "CHSTPAIN", it needs to be mapped to a corresponding NFIRS code like "EMS call, excluding vehicle accident with injury - 321" so the incident report will meet NFIRS validation rules.
Mapped CAD Incident Type codes will populate the "Dispatched Incident Type" field in the Incident Report:
Instructions
This template may be completed by the customer but must be uploaded by a member of our Client Success Team
- Download the template attached to this KBA.
- In column A, enter the CAD Incident Type Code you wish to have mapped to an NFIRS code (see yellow highlighted row for an example). Your dispatch center should be able to provide you a list of their CAD Incident Type codes so you don't have to enter them all manually.
- In column B, enter the description of the CAD Incident Type Code.
- In column C, select the Dispatch Incident Type / Group. (This is used to ensure the correct incident type icon is displayed on the map for this incident type).
- In column D, select the NFIRS Incident Type Code that will correspond to the CAD Code.
- Don't worry about columns E and F. Those are for First Due internal use only.
- Send to your Client Success Manager.
Data imported from this template appear in the Dispatch Incident Types table shown below (Response > Dispatch Incident Types). This table makes it very easy to edit any Dispatch Incident Type.
Tips and Tricks
- Spelling counts! Especially for the CAD Incident Type Code.
- It's ok if you don't map every single CAD Incident Type Code...sometimes it's perfectly fine for the report writer to select the correct code.
