This article explains how to use the Custom Day View within the Shift Board to adjust the number of visible days, apply filters, and navigate schedules efficiently.
Background Information
The Shift Board provides multiple viewing options to display staffing and assignment information. In addition to fixed views, the Custom Day View allows organizations to define how many consecutive days are displayed, improving visibility for short-term staffing needs and operational planning.

Step-by-Step Guide
Access the Shift Board
- Click the First Due logo
- Select Scheduling
- Click Shift Board
Understand Available Views
- Note the three fixed views:
- 30-day view
- 7-day view
- Single-day view
- Use the Custom Day View, which can display 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6 days depending on organization settings
Use Custom Day View Controls
- Collapse vacancies to hide full-shift vacancies
- Use the Today button to return to the current timeframe
Navigate Dates
- Click day-by-day arrows to add or remove days in either direction
- Use the calendar to jump by:
- Month
- Year
Apply Filters
- Search by:
- User
- Qualifier
- Rank
- Group
- District
- Filter by Select Boards to limit assignments shown
- Filter by specific Assignments
- Filter by Rotation
- Shows users associated with the selected rotation
- Also displays other users assigned to the same assignment even if they are not part of that rotation
Review Visual Indicators
- Colored bars across the top indicate shift associations
- Dots to the right of users indicate rotations that the user is associated with
- Colored bars to the left of the user indicate the work type that the user is on
- Qualifiers and groups appear as colored labels behind the user’s name
Best Practices
- Use Custom Day View for short-range staffing visibility
- Apply filters to reduce visual clutter when reviewing large schedules
- Use the Today button frequently when navigating far from the current date

Q: Why do I see users from another shift in my view?
A: Users may appear due to rotation associations tied to the assignment, even if their primary shift differs.
Q: Why don’t I see details when hovering over a user?
A: Hovering does not display additional information in this view. Only qualifiers and groups are shown as visual indicators.
