Create and Edit Plan Review Types

Create and Edit Plan Review Types

Purpose Statement

The Plan Review Types feature allows administrators to create, manage, and customize the categories used for organizing different types of plan reviews within the permit system. This functionality enables fire departments to establish standardized review categories that align with their operational procedures and regulatory requirements, ensuring consistent processing of permit applications and plan submissions.

Background Information

Plan Review Types serve as organizational categories that help departments classify and track different kinds of construction plans, fire safety plans, and other regulatory submissions. Common examples include Commercial Construction, Residential Construction, Fire Alarm Systems, Sprinkler Systems, and Special Events. By establishing clear review types, departments can streamline their workflow, assign appropriate reviewers, and maintain accurate records for compliance and reporting purposes.

Best Practices

  • Use clear, descriptive names that reflect the actual review process (e.g., "High-Rise Sprinkler System Review" rather than just "Sprinkler")
  • Establish naming conventions that align with your department's standard operating procedures
  • Consider disabling rather than deleting Plan Review Types that may be needed in the future
  • Regularly review and update Plan Review Types to ensure they remain relevant to current operations
  • Coordinate with all stakeholders before making changes to ensure consistency across departments

Troubleshooting & FAQs

Q: Can I recover a deleted Plan Review Type? A: No, deletion is permanent. Consider using the Disable function instead if you might need the type in the future.

Q: What happens to existing permits when I disable a Plan Review Type? A: Existing permits retain their original Plan Review Type assignment. The disabled type simply becomes unavailable for new permit applications.

Q: Who can see disabled Plan Review Types? A: Disabled types are typically hidden from standard users but may remain visible to administrators in the management interface.

Q: Is there a limit to how many Plan Review Types I can create? A: Check with your system administrator, as limits may vary based on your platform configuration.
