Assets Setup: Creating a Kit Group

Assets Setup: Creating a Kit Group

Purpose Statement

Kit Groups let you categorize kits so they’re easier to manage, filter, and assign across inspections, work orders, and kit-related workflows.

Background Information

Departments often group kits by:

  • Function (Airway, Trauma, IV, ALS/BLS, etc.)

  • Deployment (Engine kits, Medic kits, Reserve kits)

  • Operational area (Station-based caches, special event kits)

Prerequisites:

  • Kit records should already exist if you plan to assign them during group creation.

Required Permissions

To access Assets > Setup and manage setup-level configuration, users typically need an Assets setup permission (commonly Assets - Setup Settings).

For medication kit grouping specifically, a dedicated manage permission exists: Medication Kit Group – Manage.

If you cannot create/edit kit groups, confirm your role includes the appropriate kit group management permission(s).

  • Standardize group usage across stations to improve reporting and oversight.

  • Revisit assignments after kit moves, replacements, or inventory standard changes.

Troubleshooting & FAQs

I can’t find the Kit Groups tab.

  • Confirm your organization has Kits enabled and you have Assets Setup access (commonly Assets - Setup Settings).

I can see Kit Groups but can’t create/edit.

  • Confirm manage access. For medication kits, the system includes Medication Kit Group – Manage.

Can I create a group without assigning kits?

  • Yes. You can assign kits later.
