Purpose Statement
This article explains how to add a new occupancy within an area that already contains a Complex Pre-Plan in First Due. By temporarily disabling the Complex Pre-Plan map layer, users can select the desired location and create a new occupancy without interference from the existing Complex Pre-Plan.
Background Information
Complex Pre-Plans allow departments to organize pre-planning information for locations containing multiple buildings or occupancies.
When adding a new occupancy within an existing Complex Pre-Plan, the Complex Pre-Plan map layer may interfere with selecting the desired location.
Temporarily turning off this layer allows users to access the map and add the new occupancy. Once the occupancy has been created, the Complex Pre-Plan layer can be turned back on to restore its visibility.
Important: Disabling the Complex Pre-Plan map layer only changes its visibility on the map. It does not delete the existing Complex Pre-Plan.
Required Permissions
Users must have the appropriate First Due permissions to access Pre-Planning and create new occupancies.
The specific permission names and required access levels should be verified against your department's First Due permission configuration.
If you cannot access Pre-Planning or create an occupancy, contact your First Due administrator to review your permissions.

Troubleshooting & FAQs
Why can't I select the location where I want to add a new occupancy?
The existing Complex Pre-Plan map layer may be interfering with your map selection. Open Map Layers and temporarily turn off the Complex Pre-Plan layer before selecting the location again.
Will turning off the Complex Pre-Plan layer delete my existing Complex Pre-Plan?
No. Turning off the layer only hides Complex Pre-Plans from the map. The existing Complex Pre-Plan remains in the system.
Why is my Complex Pre-Plan no longer visible on the map?
The Complex Pre-Plan map layer may still be disabled. Open Map Layers and turn the Complex Pre-Plan layer back on.
Do I need to recreate the existing Complex Pre-Plan after adding a new occupancy?
No. The existing Complex Pre-Plan remains in place while the new occupancy is being created.
Where can I find detailed instructions for creating a new occupancy?
Refer to the applicable First Due Knowledge Base article covering occupancy creation.
Does adding an occupancy automatically associate it with the existing Complex Pre-Plan?
The video demonstrates creating an occupancy within the same map area but does not establish whether the new occupancy is automatically associated with the Complex Pre-Plan. Verify any required association separately.
