Purpose Statement

This article explains the key differences between using the Medications module in the First Due mobile app and accessing Medications through the First Due web application.

The mobile app provides access to Med Kits and supported operational medication events performed from Med Kits. Other Medications functionality, including administrative configuration, reporting, auditing, Med Supply management, and certain medication workflows, requires the web application.

Use this article to determine which Medications workflows can be completed from the mobile app and when the web application is required.

Background Information

The First Due mobile app is designed to provide end users access to operational medication workflows performed from Med Kits.

Users can access Med Kits and perform supported medication events from the mobile app. However, the complete Medications module is not available through the mobile experience.

Administrative configuration, Dashboard functionality, direct Med Supply management, Med Log reporting and auditing, medication event reversals, Custody Exchange workflows, and other administrative functionality require the web application.

This article highlights key functionality that is unavailable or displays differently in the First Due mobile app. It is not intended to provide a complete list of every function available within the Medications module.

Medication Functions Available on Mobile

The Med Kits page is available through both the First Due mobile app and web application.

Users can access Med Kits and perform the following supported medication events from either experience:

• Medication Counts
• Medication Usages
• Medication Transfers
• Medication Receives
• Medication Removes

The supported medication event workflows remain available when using Med Kits from the mobile app.

The appearance and navigation of Med Kits may change depending on the device, screen size, and orientation. See How Med Kits Display on Mobile later in this article.

Medications Features Not Available in the Mobile App

The following Medications functionality requires the First Due web application.

Medications Dashboard

The Medications Dashboard is not available through the First Due mobile app.

Users must access the web application to use Dashboard functionality.

If Dashboard functionality is needed while using a tablet or mobile device, users can access First Due through a supported web browser on that device.

Custody Exchange and Custody Exchange Override

Medication Custody Exchange and Custody Exchange Override are not available through the First Due mobile app.

These workflows require the web application.

Med Supply

The Med Supply cannot be directly managed through the First Due mobile app.

Users must access the web application when they need to manage medications within Med Supply.

However, medications stored in Med Supply can still participate in supported mobile Med Kit workflows.

Users can transfer medications from Med Supply by:

• Selecting Transfer from Med Kits.
• Selecting Receive from Med Kits.
• Transferring medications during another supported medication event using a Multi-Action Workflow.

Med Log - Revering Medication Events

The Med Log is not available through the First Due mobile app.

Administrators and supervisors with the appropriate permissions must access the web application to:

• Review medication events.
• Audit medication activity.
• Generate Med Log reports.
• Reverse medication events.

Medication events can be reversed by administrators or supervisors with the appropriate permissions when an event needs to be corrected.

Medication event reversal is only available through the web application.

For example, if an end user reports that a medication event was documented incorrectly and needs to be reversed, an authorized administrator or supervisor must access the Med Log through the web application to complete the reversal.

Med Kit List and Medications Setup

Administrative configuration is not available through the First Due mobile app.

This includes:

• Med Kit List - configuring med kits and their pouches.
• Medications Setup.

These functions require the web application and are permission-dependent.

The mobile app is intended for supported operational Med Kit workflows rather than administrative configuration.n.

How Med Kits Display on Mobile

Med Kits are available through both the First Due mobile app and web application.

The supported Med Kit functionality remains available on mobile; however, the interface adapts based on the device, screen size, and orientation.

Landscape Orientation

When a supported mobile device or tablet is used in landscape orientation, the Med Kits interface remains consistent with the web application.

Portrait Orientation

When Med Kits are viewed in portrait orientation, the interface adjusts to accommodate the narrower screen and provide additional space for medication inventory and workflows.

The following display and navigation changes occur:

1. Med Kits Navigation Collapses

The Med Kits navigation menu collapses into a menu button when viewing the page in portrait orientation.

Select the menu button to display the available Medications navigation options.

This reduces the amount of screen space used by navigation and provides additional room for Med Kit information and medication cards.

2. Medication Events Move to an Actions Button

Individual medication event options are consolidated under a single Actions button.

Selecting Actions displays a dropdown containing the supported medication events available to the user.

Custody Exchange is not available from this menu because Custody Exchange is a web-only workflow.

3. Med Kit Filters Are Collapsed

Med Kit filters are collapsed in portrait orientation to provide additional screen space.

Select the available dropdown arrow to expand and display the Med Kit filtering options.

4. Medication Cards Display Vertically

The presentation of medication cards changes in portrait orientation.

Instead of displaying medications in the left-to-right list presentation used by the web interface, medication cards display in a vertically stacked list.

This changes how medication inventory is presented on screen but does not change the underlying medication inventory or available Med Kit functionality.

5. Med Kit Details Are Collapsed

Med Kit information that is normally displayed within the Med Kit interface is collapsed in portrait orientation.

This may include information such as:

• Last Count
• Seal Number
• Custody
• Placement
• Other Med Kit details

Select Show Details to display the Med Kit information.

When opened, the details display over the medication cards.

6. Selecting Medications for an Event

Medication selection also changes in portrait orientation.

Users cannot select an individual medication card entry to begin an event for a specific Medication Form, expiration date, or lot number.

Instead:

• Select the medication. 
• Begin the appropriate medication event. 
• Select the appropriate Medication Form, expiration date, and lot number during the medication event workflow.

Choosing Between Mobile and Web

Use the Mobile App When

Use the First Due mobile app for supported operational Med Kit workflows, including:

• Reviewing Med Kits.
• Performing Medication Counts.
• Documenting Medication Usages.
• Transferring Medications.
• Receiving Medications.
• Removing Medications.
• Transferring medications from Med Supply through a supported Med Kit workflow.
• Completing supported Multi-Action Workflows.

Use the Web Application When

Use the web application when you need to:

• Access the Medications Dashboard.
• Perform a Medication Custody Exchange.
• Perform a Custody Exchange Override.
• Directly manage Med Supply.
• Access the Med Log.
• Review or audit medication events.
• Generate Med Log reports.
• Reverse a medication event that was entered incorrectly.
• Configure Med Kits.
• Access Medications Setup.
• Perform other administrative Medications workflows unavailable through the mobile app.

Best Practices

• Use the mobile app for supported operational medication events performed from Med Kits.
• Use the web application for administration, configuration, auditing, reporting, Custody Exchange, medication event reversal, and direct Med Supply management.
• Remember that accessing First Due through a browser on a tablet or mobile device provides the web experience, not the mobile app experience.
• If a web-only workflow is needed while in the field, a user may be able to access the web application through a supported browser on the same tablet or mobile device.
• When using Med Kits in portrait orientation, expect the interface to adjust for the available screen size.
• Use the Actions menu in portrait orientation to locate supported medication events.
• Use landscape orientation when completing medication actions or events from a tablet or mobile device for the best viewing experience.
• Expand Med Kit filters and use Show Details when additional Med Kit information is needed.
• Verify the appropriate Medication Form, expiration date, and lot number when documenting a medication event from the portrait mobile interface.
• Administrators and supervisors responsible for correcting medication events should understand that event reversal requires access to the Med Log through the web application.
• If a Medications feature does not appear in the mobile app, do not assume it is unavailable on the device. Accessing First Due through a supported web browser may provide the required web-only functionality.

Troubleshooting & FAQs

Why can't I find the Medications Dashboard in the mobile app?

The Medications Dashboard is not available in the First Due mobile app.

Access First Due through the web application to use Dashboard functionality. A supported web browser on a tablet or mobile device can also provide the web experience.

Can I perform Medication Counts and other medication events from mobile?

Yes. Supported Med Kit workflows on mobile include:

• Counts
• Usages
• Transfers
• Receives
• Removes

Why does Med Kits look different when I rotate my device?

The Med Kits interface adapts based on device orientation and available screen size.

Landscape orientation remains consistent with the web interface.

In portrait orientation, navigation and controls are consolidated to maximize available screen space. The Med Kits navigation collapses into a menu button, medication events move under Actions, filters and Med Kit details collapse, and medication cards display vertically.

These interface changes do not remove the supported Med Kit functionality available to the user.

Why can't I see the Medications navigation menu in portrait orientation?

Where are the medication event buttons in portrait orientation?

Medication events are consolidated under the Actions button.

Access the web application to perform these workflows.

Why don't I see all of the Med Kit information in portrait orientation?

Med Kit details are collapsed to maximize available screen space.

Select Show Details to display information such as Last Count, Seal Number, Custody, Placement, and other available Med Kit details.

Why can't I select an individual Medication Form from the medication card?

In portrait orientation, users select the medication rather than an individual Medication Form, expiration date, or lot number from the medication card.

The appropriate Medication Form and inventory information are selected during the medication event workflow.

Can I manage Med Supply from mobile?

No. Direct Med Supply management requires the web application.

However, medications can be transferred from Med Supply using supported Med Kit Transfer workflows, including supported Multi-Action Workflows.

Can I access the Med Log from mobile?

The Med Log is not available through the First Due mobile app.

Administrators and supervisors who need to review or audit medication events, generate reports, or reverse medication events must use the web application.

Can I reverse a medication event from the mobile app?

No. Medication event reversal is available only through the Med Log in the web application and requires the appropriate permissions.

If an event needs to be reversed while using a tablet or mobile device, access First Due through a supported web browser rather than the First Due mobile app.

Can administrators configure Med Kits from mobile?

No. Med Kit configuration and Medications Setup require the web application and appropriate permissions.
