Purpose Statement
This article explains the key differences between using the Assets module in the First Due mobile app and accessing Assets through the First Due web application.
While many operational Assets workflows are available in both experiences, some functionality requires the web application. Other features are available on both platforms but use different navigation, layouts, or functionality within the mobile app.
Use this article to determine when a workflow can be completed from the mobile app and when the web application is required.
Important Note:
The mobile app refers specifically to the installed First Due application on a supported mobile device.
The web application refers to First Due accessed through a supported web browser. This includes accessing First Due from a browser on a desktop computer, laptop, tablet, or mobile device.
If functionality is unavailable in the First Due mobile app, users may still be able to access the web experience through a supported browser on the same device.
Background Information
The Assets module is available through both the First Due web application and mobile app; however, the two experiences are designed to support different workflows.
The mobile app provides access to many operational workflows used in the field. Administrative configuration, centralized inventory management, list-level asset management, and certain maintenance and reporting functions require the web application.
Some functionality is also available in both experiences but may be accessed, displayed, or managed differently on mobile.
This article highlights key functionality that is unavailable or functions differently in the First Due mobile app. It is not intended to provide a complete list of every function available within the Assets module.
Assets Features Not Available in the Mobile App
The following Assets pages are not available within the First Due mobile app.
When a page is unavailable, workflows performed from that page are also unavailable in the mobile app unless an alternative mobile workflow is specifically identified later in this article.
| Feature | Mobile App Availability |
|---|---|
| Preventative Maintenance | Web Only |
| Asset Lists | Web Only |
| Inventory Management | Web Only |
| Purchase Orders | Web Only |
| Swap | Web Only |
| System Log | Web Only |
| Status Log | Web Only |
| Setup | Web Only |
Preventative Maintenance
The Preventative Maintenance page and workflows performed from that page require the web application.
Use the web application when reviewing, executing, or managing Preventative Maintenance records.
Asset Lists
Asset List pages are not available within the First Due mobile app.
Use the web application when list-level management of Apparatus, Equipment, Locations, or other asset records is required.
Individual Asset Overviews remain available on mobile.
Inventory Management
The centralized Inventory Management page is not available within the First Due mobile app.
Inventory Management is a web-only area used to:
- Perform Global Restocks and manage restocking activity across assets.
- Submit and respond to Inventory Requests.
- Manage Inventory by Location for existing inventory items.
- Access inventory-related logs.
Users who need these centralized inventory management workflows must access First Due through the web application.
Warning:
The web-only Inventory Management page should not be confused with the Inventory List or inventory workflows available from individual Asset Overviews. Both have mobile functionality and are discussed later in this article.
Swap
The standalone Swap page is not available in the mobile app.
However, users can initiate supported Swap and Unit Update workflows from an Apparatus Overview in the mobile app.
See Swap and Unit Update later in this article for important mobile limitations.
System Log and Status Log
The System Log and Status Log are not available through the mobile app.
Use the web application when these records need to be reviewed.
Setup
The Assets → Setup area is not available through the mobile app.
Administrative configuration of the Assets module must be performed using the web application.
An exception exists for the Inventory List, which originates from Setup in the web application but is available directly from the Assets module menu in the mobile app.
Features That Work Differently on Mobile
Several Assets features are available in both the mobile app and web application but may use different navigation, display options, or functionality.
Assets Dashboard
The Dashboard is labeled Assets Dashboard in the First Due mobile app.
When using the mobile app, the order of workflow tiles and Checklist filters may change depending on whether the device is being used in portrait or landscape orientation.
Changing device orientation may therefore change where Dashboard options appear without changing the functionality available to the user.
Portrait Orientation
Landscape Orientation
Checklists
Checklist functionality is available in both the First Due mobile app and web application.
The primary difference is how the checklist may be displayed on screen. The layout can vary based on:
- Device type, such as a mobile phone or tablet
- Screen size
- Portrait or landscape orientation
Because of these differences, checklist fields, buttons, sections, or other interface elements may appear in a different position than they do in the web application.

Mobile Application - Phone
Asset Overviews
Asset Overview pages are available through both the web application and mobile app.
On mobile, users can use the collapse/expand control to hide or display Asset Groups or Asset Lists, depending on whether groups have been configured.
This provides additional screen space when reviewing asset information from a mobile device.
Work Orders and the Work Order List
Work Order workflows are available through both the First Due mobile app and web application.
Users can submit Work Orders using the available Work Order workflows in either experience. Administrators can also manage Work Orders through Work Order Boards on both web and mobile.
The primary difference is how the Work Order List is accessed.
| Experience | Work Order List Access |
|---|---|
| Web Application | Access the Work Order List directly from the Assets menu or through Work Order Boards. |
| Mobile App | Access the Work Order List through Work Order Boards. It is not available as a standalone page in the Assets module menu. |
Once the Work Order List is accessed through Work Order Boards in the mobile app, the functionality available on the page is the same as the web application.
Info: Mobile Navigation Difference
The Work Order List is available in the First Due mobile app but does not appear as a standalone page in the Assets module menu.
To access it on mobile, navigate to Work Order Boards, then use the available option to open the Work Order List.
Inventory Workflows from Asset Overviews
Although the centralized Inventory Management page is web only, supported end-user inventory workflows remain available from individual Asset Overviews in the mobile app.
Users can perform inventory actions from:
- Apparatus Overviews.
- Location Overviews.
- Kit Overviews.
Supported end-user workflows include:
- Restocks
- Usages
- Submitting Inventory Requests
These actions apply to inventory associated with the specific asset being viewed and should not be confused with the centralized Inventory Management workflows available through the web application.
Inventory List
The Inventory List is available through both the web application and mobile app, but its navigation differs between the two experiences.
In the web application, the Inventory List is accessed through Assets → Setup.
In the mobile app, the Inventory List is pulled out of Setup and appears directly within the Assets module menu.
Access is permission-dependent.
The Inventory List is used to manage inventory item records, including functionality such as:
- Creating new inventory items.
- Managing existing inventory items.
- Updating inventory quantities and placement as supported by the Inventory List.
Tip: Understanding the Difference
Inventory Management is the centralized web-only area for Global Restocks, Inventory Requests, Inventory by Location, and inventory-related logs.
Inventory List is used to create and manage inventory items and is available on both web and mobile with different navigation.
Asset Overview inventory workflows allow users to perform operational Restocks, Usages, and submit Requests against inventory associated with a specific Apparatus, Location, or Kit.
Swap and Unit Update
Users can initiate a Swap or Unit Update from an Apparatus Overview in the First Due mobile app.
However, the complete Swap/Unit Update management workflow is not available on mobile.
After a Swap or Unit Update has been performed, the resulting record cannot be altered, closed, or reversed from the mobile app.
These actions must be completed using the web application.
Important Note: Mobile Limitation
The mobile app can be used to initiate a Swap or Unit Update from an Apparatus Overview. To alter, close, or reverse the resulting record, access First Due through the web application.
Choosing Between Mobile and Web
Use the Mobile App When
The First Due mobile app is appropriate for supported operational Assets workflows performed in the field, including:
- Accessing the Assets Dashboard.
- Reviewing Asset Overviews.
- Completing asset checklists in the field.
- Submitting Work Orders through supported workflows.
- Managing Work Orders through Work Order Boards.
- Accessing the Work Order List through Work Order Boards.
- Performing Restock, Usage, and Request workflows from supported Asset Overviews.
- Creating or managing inventory items through the permission-dependent Inventory List.
- Performing a Swap or Unit Update from an Apparatus Overview.
Use the Web Application When
Use the web application when you need to:
- Access Asset Lists.
- Review, execute, or manage Preventative Maintenance.
- Use centralized Inventory Management.
- Perform Global Restocks or manage restocking activity across assets.
- Submit or respond to Inventory Requests through Inventory Management.
- Manage Inventory by Location.
- Access inventory-related logs.
- Manage Purchase Orders.
- Review the System Log or Status Log.
- Configure the Assets module through Setup.
- Access the Work Order List directly from the Assets menu.
- Access the standalone Swap page.
- Alter, close, or reverse a Swap or Unit Update.
- Perform other administrative or list-level workflows unavailable through the mobile app.
Best Practices
- Use the mobile app for supported operational and field workflows.
- Use the web application for administrative configuration, centralized management, and functionality requiring full list-level access.
- Remember that accessing First Due through a browser on a tablet or mobile device provides the web experience, not the mobile app experience.
- If a page does not appear in the mobile Assets menu, do not automatically assume its functionality is unavailable. Some features use a different navigation path on mobile.
- Understand the distinction between Inventory Management, Inventory List, and inventory actions performed from an Asset Overview.
- Verify that users have the appropriate permissions for permission-dependent functionality, including the Inventory List.
- When performing a Swap or Unit Update from mobile, remember that subsequent management of the record may require the web application.
Troubleshooting & FAQs
Why can't I find an Assets feature in the mobile app?
Some Assets pages and administrative workflows are available only through the web application. Review the Assets Features Not Available in the Mobile App section of this article.
Other functionality may still be available through a different mobile navigation path or workflow.
Can I access the web version of Assets from a tablet or phone?
Yes. Accessing First Due through a supported web browser on a tablet or mobile device uses the web experience rather than the installed First Due mobile app.
Why does my checklist look different on mobile?
Checklist layout can adjust based on the device, screen size, and portrait or landscape orientation. Although the checklist may render differently than it does in the web application, the underlying checklist functionality remains the same.
Can I submit and manage Work Orders from the mobile app?
Yes. Users can submit Work Orders using supported workflows, and administrators can manage Work Orders through Work Order Boards.
The primary difference is that the Work Order List must be accessed through Work Order Boards on mobile.
Why can't I find the Work Order List in the mobile Assets menu?
The Work Order List does not appear as a standalone page in the mobile Assets menu.
Navigate to Work Order Boards and use the available option to access the Work Order List. Once opened, the functionality available on the Work Order List is the same as the web application.
Is Inventory Management available on mobile?
No. The centralized Inventory Management page is web only.
Users can still perform supported end-user inventory workflows—including Restocks, Usages, and submitting Requests—from Apparatus, Location, and Kit Overviews in the mobile app.
Why can I see the Inventory List on mobile if Setup is web only?
The Inventory List originates from Assets → Setup in the web application but is surfaced directly in the Assets module menu on mobile.
Access is permission-dependent.
What is the difference between Inventory Management and the Inventory List?
Inventory Management provides centralized inventory workflows such as Global Restocks, Inventory Requests, Inventory by Location, and inventory-related logs. It is web only.
The Inventory List is used to create and manage inventory item records and is available on both web and mobile.
Can I perform inventory actions from an Asset Overview on mobile?
Yes. Supported inventory workflows can be performed from Apparatus, Location, and Kit Overviews, including Restocks, Usages, and submitting Inventory Requests.
Can I perform a Swap or Unit Update from mobile?
Yes. A Swap or Unit Update can be initiated from an Apparatus Overview in the mobile app.
However, the resulting record cannot be altered, closed, or reversed from mobile. Use the web application to perform those actions.
Why does the Assets Dashboard change when I rotate my device?
The order of workflow tiles and Checklist filters may change based on whether the mobile device is in portrait or landscape orientation. The change in order does not indicate that functionality has been removed.
