Purpose Statement
The Annual Inspection Date Reset option changes when the next recurring Initial Inspection is scheduled for an inspection series that includes violations and re-inspections.
When enabled, First Due waits until the inspection series reaches a clean resolution—an Initial Inspection or re-inspection is completed with no open violations—before scheduling the next Initial Inspection. The next inspection is then based on the clean-resolution completion date plus the inspection type's existing Default Schedule cadence.
This helps agencies base future recurring inspections on when the inspection series was actually resolved rather than the originally scheduled inspection date.
Background Information
By default, recurring inspection scheduling uses the inspection type's configured Default Schedule and scheduling settings to determine when the next inspection should occur.
With Annual Inspection Date Reset enabled, an Initial Inspection that is completed with open violations does not immediately generate the next Initial Inspection. First Due waits while required re-inspections are completed.
Once an inspection in the series is completed with no open violations, First Due schedules the next Initial Inspection using:
Clean-resolution completion date + Default Schedule cadence
For example, if an annual inspection results in violations that take several months and multiple re-inspections to resolve, the next annual Initial Inspection can be scheduled one year from the date the violations are finally resolved.
The feature applies to AHJ inspections only and is configured at the agency level. When enabled, it applies to all applicable inspection types for the agency.
Important: Enabling Annual Inspection Date Reset does not automatically enable or modify other re-inspection settings. Agencies should review their re-inspection configuration to ensure the settings work together as intended.
The feature is forward-looking. Enabling or disabling it does not recalculate Initial Inspections that have already been scheduled.
Required Permissions
To configure Annual Inspection Date Reset, the user must have the existing permission that allows them to edit Inspection Setup / System Options. No additional permission is required specifically to enable or disable the toggle.
Re-inspection cancellation and deletion are controlled separately.
Users with the general inspection delete or cancel permissions are not automatically permitted to remove the last re-inspection in an open series. A dedicated Re-inspection cancel/delete permission controls this action.
Users without that dedicated permission cannot cancel or delete the last re-inspection in an open series and should reschedule it instead.
The dedicated permission applies whether Annual Inspection Date Reset is enabled or disabled.

Step-by-Step Guide
1. Open Inspection Setup
Navigate to Inspections → Inspection Setup.
Open System Options.
2. Enable Annual Inspection Date Reset
Locate Annual Inspection Date Reset.
Enable the toggle.
The option is disabled by default and is configured at the agency level.
3. Review the Re-Inspection Configuration
Confirm the agency's existing Require re-inspection if open violations setting is configured appropriately for your workflow.
Annual Inspection Date Reset does not automatically enable or change this setting.
4. Review Custom Checklist Responses
Review custom checklist responses that are mapped to a failure or citation.
For responses where another inspection should be required, confirm the re-inspection required option is configured appropriately.
These settings remain independent from Annual Inspection Date Reset.
5. Save the System Options
Select Save to save the System Options configuration.
Annual Inspection Date Reset now applies to future qualifying inspection completions. Existing scheduled inspections are not recalculated.
6. Complete the Initial Inspection
Complete the Initial Inspection using the normal inspection workflow.
If the Initial Inspection is completed with no open violations, it is considered a clean resolution. First Due schedules the next Initial Inspection using the completion date plus the inspection type's Default Schedule cadence.
If open violations remain, First Due does not yet schedule the next Initial Inspection under this feature.
7. Complete Required Re-Inspections
Continue the re-inspection process until the violations are resolved.
While a re-inspection in the series remains open, the Inspection Organizer's manual action for creating the next Initial Inspection remains unavailable.
8. Reach a Clean Resolution
Complete the final applicable re-inspection with no open violations.
This completion becomes the clean resolution for the inspection series.
First Due uses its completion date as the anchor for scheduling the next Initial Inspection.
9. Allow First Due to Schedule the Next Initial Inspection
First Due adds the inspection type's existing Default Schedule cadence to the clean-resolution completion date.
Existing scheduling exclusions, including configured days of the week and holidays, continue to apply. If the calculated date falls on an excluded date, First Due shifts the inspection according to the existing scheduling behavior.
The resulting inspection is created as a scheduled Initial Inspection.
If the inspection type does not have a Default Schedule cadence, a new recurring Initial Inspection is not scheduled.
Best Practices
- Enable Annual Inspection Date Reset only after reviewing the agency's complete re-inspection workflow.
- Confirm Require re-inspection if open violations is configured to support the agency's intended process.
- Review custom fail and citation responses and ensure re-inspection required is enabled when another inspection should be required.
- Remember that these configuration options are independent. Annual Inspection Date Reset does not automatically change either re-inspection setting.
- Verify that recurring inspection types have the appropriate Default Schedule configured. The feature uses the existing cadence and does not create a new scheduling cadence.
- Do not rely on Annual Inspection Date Reset to modify inspections that have already been scheduled. Changes to the setting apply going forward.
- Reschedule the last re-inspection in an open series instead of cancelling or deleting it unless the user has the dedicated permission and there is a legitimate reason to remove it.
- Remember that the existing Schedule the next Inspection from setting on an inspection type remains independent. Enabling Annual Inspection Date Reset does not change that setting.
Troubleshooting & FAQs
Why wasn't the next Initial Inspection scheduled when I completed the Initial Inspection?
If Annual Inspection Date Reset is enabled and open violations remain, this is expected. First Due waits until the inspection series reaches a clean resolution before scheduling the next Initial Inspection.
What is considered a clean resolution?
A clean resolution occurs when an Initial Inspection or re-inspection is completed with no open violations.
When is the next Initial Inspection scheduled if there are multiple re-inspections?
First Due waits until the inspection series reaches a clean resolution. The next Initial Inspection is then based on the completion date of that clean resolution plus the inspection type's Default Schedule cadence.
What happens when the Initial Inspection has no violations?
If the Initial Inspection is completed with no open violations, it is the clean resolution. The next Initial Inspection can be scheduled from that completion date using the Default Schedule cadence.
Why was no future Initial Inspection created after the clean resolution?
Check the inspection type's Default Schedule. If no recurring cadence is configured, First Due does not create a future recurring inspection.
Does enabling Annual Inspection Date Reset change inspections that are already scheduled?
No. The feature is forward-looking. Existing scheduled inspection records are not recalculated when the option is enabled or disabled.
Does this setting change the "Schedule the next Inspection from" option on an inspection type?
No. The per-type scheduling option remains independent and is not modified when Annual Inspection Date Reset is enabled or disabled.
Why can't I manually create the next Initial Inspection from the Inspection Organizer?
When Annual Inspection Date Reset is enabled, the manual create action remains unavailable while a re-inspection in the series is still open. It becomes available once the series reaches a clean resolution.
Why can't I cancel or delete the last re-inspection?
The last re-inspection in an open series is protected from cancellation or deletion unless the user has the dedicated Re-inspection cancel/delete permission. Users without this permission can reschedule the re-inspection.
I already have permission to delete or cancel inspections. Why am I still blocked?
General inspection cancel and delete permissions do not by themselves authorize removal of the last re-inspection in an open series. The dedicated Re-inspection cancel/delete permission is checked independently.
Does the re-inspection cancel/delete restriction apply only when Annual Inspection Date Reset is enabled?
No. The safeguard and its dedicated permission apply regardless of whether Annual Inspection Date Reset is enabled.
Does Annual Inspection Date Reset automatically require re-inspections for violations?
No. Annual Inspection Date Reset, Require re-inspection if open violations, and the re-inspection requirement configured on applicable custom responses are independent settings. Agencies should align all three with their intended inspection workflow.
