Purpose Statement
This article explains how to create a Multi-Action Workflow for medication events within the Medications module. Multi-Action Workflows allow users to complete multiple medication actions in a single workflow and finalize them with one signature process, improving efficiency and reducing repetitive documentation.
Background Information
Medication Event Workflows can be started from multiple areas in the Medications module, depending on the action being performed and where the medication inventory is located. Users can combine supported actions into a single workflow, which is especially useful when multiple inventory updates need to be completed at the same time.
This workflow supports better documentation consistency, reduces duplicate effort, and helps streamline medication event tracking.
Required Permissions
Users must have appropriate permissions within the Medications module to create and complete medication event workflows.
Typical permissions may include:
- Medications Module Access
- Med Supply access
- Med Kit access
- Dashboard access
- Permissions for Usage, Transfer, Remove, and Receive actions
- Signature permissions
Permission availability may vary based on agency configuration.

Step-by-Step Guide
1. Navigate to Medications
- Navigate to the Medications module.
You can begin an Event Workflow from three areas:
- Med Supply
- Med Kits
- Dashboard

2. Start a Workflow from Med Supply
- In Med Supply, workflows can be created for the following events:
- Remove
- Transfer
- Receive

3. Start a Workflow from Med Kits
- In Med Kits, select the kit you want to work from.
- Begin an Event Workflow by selecting one of the following:
- Usage
- Transfer
- Remove
- Receive

4. Start a Workflow from the Dashboard
- From the Medications Dashboard, begin an Event Workflow by selecting + Usage.

5. Review the Event Workflow Screen
- Once an event is selected, a new screen will appear.
- The selected event will display in the upper-left corner.
If the selected event is Remove, Transfer, or Usage:
- In Grid view, if no medications were selected before choosing the event, all medications within the selected location will populate.
- In List view, all medications always appear when selecting one of those three events.

6. Select Specific Medications
- You can select specific medications so only those medications appear in the Remove, Transfer, or Usage workflow.

7. Review Medication Forms and Expirations
- After selecting a medication, the system will display all associated:
- Forms
- Expiration dates

8. Refine the Medication Selection
- To narrow the list further, select a specific:
- Medication form
- Expiration date

9. Confirm Refined Medication Results
- The workflow will then display only the selected:
- Forms
- Expiration dates
This allows you to work with a more precise inventory selection.

10. Add Another Action to the Workflow
- Within the Event Workflow, select the Add Action dropdown to begin a new event.
This allows you to complete multiple actions for specific medications while only completing one final signature process.
Note: If you select Count, you will no longer be able to add additional actions.

11. Complete the Current Action Before Continuing
- When adding multiple actions, ensure the current event is fully completed before selecting Continue.
- Once a new action is selected, the previous action closes and becomes non-editable.

12. Remove the Current Action from the Workflow
- While working in a newly added action, you can remove it by selecting Remove Action from this Flow.

13. Confirm Action Removal
- Before the removal is completed, a confirmation modal will appear.
- Select Remove to confirm deleting the action from the workflow.

Best Practices
- Complete each action fully before adding the next action to the workflow.
- Use medication filtering to narrow the workflow to only the needed inventory items.
- Review the selected location, medication form, and expiration date before continuing.
- Use multi-action workflows to reduce duplicate signatures and improve documentation efficiency.
- Avoid adding unnecessary actions, since completed actions become non-editable once the next action is started.
