Purpose Statement
Business Portal permit application notifications automatically alert designated personnel when a business submits a new permit application through the Business Portal.
This setup uses the existing Permit Type notification configuration to determine which users or teams receive notifications, helping ensure new Business Portal permit applications are routed to the appropriate personnel for review.
Background Information
When a business applies for a permit through the Business Portal, designated personnel can be notified of the new submission.
Notification recipients are configured at the Permit Type level. This allows departments to determine which users or teams should be notified based on the type of permit being submitted.
This article focuses specifically on configuring Business Portal permit application notifications. For information about managing or processing permits, refer to the appropriate documentation in the Permits section of the Knowledge Base.
Required Permissions
Users must have access to the applicable Permit Type configuration to complete this setup.
If you cannot access Permit Types, edit a Permit Type, or access its User Portals settings, contact your First Due administrator to verify your assigned permissions.

Best Practices
- Use teams when possible. Configuring a team rather than relying solely on individual users can provide better continuity when staffing changes occur.
- Review recipients regularly. Periodically verify that configured users and teams are still responsible for reviewing the applicable Permit Type.
- Keep team membership current. When personnel change roles or leave the department, update team membership to maintain accurate notification routing.
- Configure each Permit Type appropriately. Notification recipients are configured by Permit Type. Review each applicable Permit Type to ensure submissions reach the correct personnel.
- Plan for staff availability. Consider notification coverage when primary personnel are unavailable to reduce the possibility of permit applications being overlooked.
Troubleshooting & FAQs
Can different Permit Types have different notification recipients?
Yes. Notification recipients are configured at the Permit Type level, allowing different Permit Types to notify different users or teams.
Can a team receive Business Portal permit application notifications?
Yes. You can select an individual user or a team as a notification recipient.
Why can't I access or edit Permit Types?
Your assigned permissions may not provide access to the required Permit Type configuration. Contact your First Due administrator to verify your access.
A user is not receiving permit application notifications. What should I check?
Verify that the correct user or team has been added to the Notifications section for the applicable Permit Type. If a team is configured, confirm that the user is currently a member of that team.
Do I need to configure notifications for each Permit Type?
Notification recipients are configured at the Permit Type level. If multiple Permit Types require Business Portal notifications, review and configure the notification settings for each applicable Permit Type.
Are Business Portal permit notifications the same as Community Connect permit notifications?
Business Portal and Community Connect submissions use separate email templates so notification content can reflect the applicable submission method.
