Background Information
NERIS Workflows are system-generated and read-only, meaning they cannot be edited or deleted. These workflows define logic related to default values, hidden fields, and validation errors to ensure consistent and compliant reporting practices.
While you cannot modify these workflows, being able to view them helps administrators understand how NERIS enforces certain data rules and identify system-level logic already in place.
Step-by-Step Guide
1. Navigate to the NERIS Workflows Page
- Go to Incident Documentation > Fire Incident Setup.
- Select NERIS Workflows.
2. View Workflows in Read-Only Mode
- Use the eye icon in the Actions column to view a specific workflow.
- Workflows cannot be edited from this view.
3. Filter by Field
- Use the Field dropdown to select one or more fields.
- Type in the search bar for quicker filtering.
4. Filter by Workflow Type
- Use the Workflow dropdown to choose one or more types:
- Default – Automatically populates field values.
- Error – Triggers validation when criteria are not met.
- Hide – Hides specific fields from view.
5. Apply Filters
- Click Apply to filter the workflow list based on your selections.
6. Manage Filters
- To remove individual filters, click the "x" next to the selected item.
- Use Reset to clear all filters.
7. Sort Columns
- Click any column header to sort by that column (e.g., Field, Workflow Type).
8. Pagination & Display Settings
- Navigate between pages using pagination controls.
- Use the dropdown at the bottom of the grid to display 20, 50, or 100 workflows per page.
9. View a Workflow
- Click the eye icon in the Actions column to open the workflow view.
- If the field has multiple workflows (e.g., Hide and Error), they will all be listed.
10. Select a Workflow to View
- Choose the specific workflow you want to review from the available list.
11. Example: Viewing Multiple Workflows
- If a field has more than one workflow (e.g., a Hide and an Error Validation), select each workflow type separately to see the conditions and descriptions.
Best Practices
- Use the NERIS Workflows view as a reference before creating custom workflows to avoid overlap or contradiction.
- Share visibility of these workflows with reporting staff to clarify why certain fields are hidden or auto-filled.
Troubleshooting & FAQs
Q: Why can’t I edit or delete a NERIS Workflow?
A: NERIS Workflows are system-defined and locked for modification to preserve platform integrity and standardization.
Q: What if I need to override a NERIS Workflow?
A: You cannot override system workflows directly. Instead, use the Workflows section (not NERIS Workflows) to create agency-specific logic where needed.
