Understanding the "Resolved" Status for Re-Inspections
Understanding the "Resolved" Status for Re-Inspections
Purpose Statement
To explain the "Resolved" response for inspection checklist items and clarify when this status can be appropriately used during follow-up inspections. This feature ensures proper verification that previously identified issues have been fully addressed and corrected.
Background Information
The "Resolved" status is a specialized inspection response available exclusively during re-inspections and follow-up inspections. This status serves as verification that issues previously marked as "Fail," "Citation," or "Corrected" during initial inspections have been fully addressed and meet compliance requirements. Understanding when and how to use this status is crucial for maintaining accurate inspection records and ensuring proper follow-through on identified violations or deficiencies.

Step-by-Step Guide
Navigate to an occupancy to conduct an inspection. (An inspection can be started from multiple locations in the system. For this article we are using Inspections > My Inspections > Find Desired Occupancy > Select to start an inspection.)
While conducting the initial inspection you will have the following Standard Inspection Responses for checklist items:
(A) Pass
(B) Fail
(C) Citation
(D) Corrected
(E) Not Applicable
Once the inspection has been completed and you initiate a re-inspection, you will have the following Standard Inspection Responses for any previous issues that had the response of "fail", "citation", or "corrected":
(A) Fail
(B) Citation
(C) Corrected
(D) Resolved
NOTE: The Standard Inspection Responses "Pass" and "Not Applicable" will still be available for any checklist item on a re-inspection that was NOT answered on a prior inspection OR was answered with "Pass" or "Not Applicable" on a prior inspection.
Best Practices
When to Use "Resolved"
Only during re-inspections or follow-up inspections
When a previous "Fail," "Citation," or "Corrected" item has been completely fixed
After verifying the correction meets all applicable codes and standards
When the issue will not require further follow-up
When NOT to Use "Resolved"
During initial inspections (option is not available)
For items that were previously marked as "Pass" or "Not Applicable"
When an issue is only partially corrected
If you're unsure whether the correction is complete or adequate
Documentation Tips
Add detailed notes when marking items as "Resolved" to document what was corrected
Include photos if applicable to show the resolved condition
Reference any permits or approvals obtained to address the issue
Troubleshooting & FAQs
Q: Why don't I see the "Resolved" option during my inspection?
A: The "Resolved" status only appears during re-inspections and only for items that were previously marked as "Fail," "Citation," or "Corrected."
Q: Can I change a "Resolved" status after completing the re-inspection?
A: Contact your system administrator about editing completed inspections. Document any changes thoroughly.
Q: What happens to items marked as "Resolved"?
A: Items marked as "Resolved" indicate successful correction and typically won't appear as issues in future routine inspections unless new problems develop.
Q: Should I use "Resolved" or "Corrected" for fixed items?
A: Use "Corrected" if the item was fixed during the current inspection. Use "Resolved" if the item was fixed between inspections and you're verifying the correction.
