Setting up the ePCR - Custom Elements

Purpose

  1. To explain how to enter the data into the Custom Elements section of your EMS Setup
  2. Custom Elements are usually a result of one of two needs:
    1. State Specific Custom Data Elements
    2. Data tracking unique to the needs of a specific agency.
  3. Within the Custom Elements Section, users can custom selectable fields inside existing NEMSIS questions or add entire custom questions to an ePCR.

Instructions

  1. To access this page navigate to Incident Documentation > EMS Setup > Custom Elements.
  2. Once on the landing page you can add Custom Questions or Custom Values to your ePCR.  Select the Add button in the corresponding area you want to add too.






  3. To add a Custom Question select the Add button and fill out the following fields.  Once completed select the Add button.

    1. (ACustom Element ID - This is the unique identifier to accompany the new question. This ID may come from a NEMSIS State Data Set (e.g. "emsa.E1") or be defined by an agency.
    2. (BTitle - The text entered here is what becomes visible to a provider filling out an ePCR.
    3. (CData Type - Select a logic (required).
      1. Boolean: This question will be presented as a toggle switch inside the ePCR. (Yes/no; true/false)
      2. Date/Time: Allows providers the ability to document a date & time as the answer to the custom question.
      3. Integer: Answers to this data type are number only. Set the parameters for max characters allowed, integer range allowed, decimal places allowed, and/or set a default value.
      4. Other: Provides an alphanumeric free text box as an answer field to the custom question. Define min/max characters allowed and/or set a default value.
      5. Text/string: Use this data type to allow a text only answer, or...
        1. Dropdown: Enable the "dropdown field" toggle to create a custom dropdown answer choice list for the custom question. Set a default value if desired. 
    4. (DRecurrence - Will be a yes or no choice for all logics except Boolean. For State Specific Items, the state data set will define if an element has a recurrence rule. 
    5. (EUsage - Determine if the custom question should be mandatory for a provider documenting an ePCR, recommended (yellow warning flag will appear if left unanswered), or optional.
    6. (FPertinent Negatives - Select your choice from the dropdown any pertinent negatives that should apply to the question being asked.
    7. (GDefinition - Insert the definition (required). This is used for internal tracking,
    8. (HData Set - Select your choice
      1. DEMDataSet - will compare against a state specific Demographics set.
      2. EMSDataSet - will compare against the national NEMSIS standard.
    9. (IAfter Field - This will ONLY populate after a Data Set is selected.  Once populated select your choice from the dropdown. This determines where the custom question will appear within the ePCR. The question will appear after the selected field.






  4. To add a Custom Value select the Add button and fill out the following fields.  Once completed select the Add button.
    1. (A) Data Set - Search for the field you wish to edit by first choosing the appropriate data set:
      1. DEMDataSet - will compare against a state specific Demographics set.
      2. EMSDataSet - will compare against the national NEMSIS standard.
    2. (B) Field - This will ONLY populate after a Data Set is selected.  Once populated, select your choice from the dropdown. Use the search bar as needed.
    3. (C) Select Master Value - This will ONLY populate after a Field is selected.  Once populated select your choice from the dropdown (required).
    4. (D) Add Selectable Value -This is what the provider will click on inside the ePCR. (example: VAN - Vision, Aphasia, Neglect)
    5. (E) Reported Code - This is what is reported to NEMSIS/Your State. (example: it3330.102)
