Managing / Creating Exposure Types

Purpose Statement

  1. This article explains how to manage and create custom Exposure Types within the Health & Wellness module. Exposure Types help categorize different types of occupational exposures for documentation and reporting purposes.

Background Information

  1. The system includes four standard Exposure Types that are predefined and cannot be edited or removed. Agencies can create additional custom Exposure Types to better align with internal tracking and reporting needs.

Step-by-Step Guide


Step 1: Navigate to Exposure Types
  1. From the Health & Wellness module, select Exposure Type from the menu.

Step 2: Understand Standard Exposure Types
  1. There are four standard Exposure Types included in the system.
  2. These types cannot be edited or deleted.


There are four standard Exposure Types, these four can not be edited nor deleted.



Step 3: Add a New Exposure Type
  1. Click + Add to create a new custom Exposure Type.





Step 4: Enter Exposure Type Details
  1. In the modal that appears, complete the required fields:
    • Code: A short, unique identifier.
    • Name: A descriptive name for the Exposure Type.


From the modal give the Exposure Type a Code and Name (required).



Step 5: Edit or Delete Custom Exposure Types
  1. In the Actions column:
    • Click the pencil icon to edit the Exposure Type.
    • Click the trash can icon to delete it.


For custom created Exposure Types now from the Actions column you are able to edit or delete.



Step 6: Edit Custom Exposure Type Details
  1. When editing, you can modify:
    • Code
    • Name


When selecting the pencil icon from the Actions column now you are able to edit that exposure types Code or Name.



Step 7: Delete Exposure Types (Two Methods)
  1. Single Delete: Click the trash can icon in the Actions column.
  2. Bulk Delete:
    1. Use checkboxes to select multiple Exposure Types.
    2. Click the trash can icon next to + Add to delete selected items.

Step 8: Confirm Deletion
  1. A warning modal will appear prompting you to confirm deletion.


When deleting a warning modal will display to confirm deletion.



Step 9: Understand Deletion Restrictions
  1. If the Exposure Type is currently in use, an error message will appear and deletion will not proceed.


An Error message will appear for those Exposure Types that are in use if attempting to Delete.


Best Practices

  1. Use meaningful and consistent naming conventions for new Exposure Types.
  2. Review the list periodically and remove unused custom Exposure Types (when not in use).
  3. Avoid creating duplicate Exposure Types with similar meanings.

Troubleshooting & FAQs

Why can’t I delete a custom Exposure Type?
If the Exposure Type is already in use within an exposure record, it cannot be deleted. You must first remove all associated records.

Can I rename a standard Exposure Type?
No. Standard Exposure Types are locked for editing and deletion.

Is there a limit to how many custom Exposure Types I can create?
There is no hard limit, but keeping the list manageable improves usability and reporting consistency.
