Command Setup: Resource Requests

Command Setup: Resource Requests

Purpose Statement

  1. Resource Requests in the Command Module serve as automated reminders and punch lists for incident commanders to ensure critical outside resources and agencies are contacted during emergency operations. This feature helps prevent oversight of important notifications and resource requests that are essential for effective incident management and safety compliance.

Background Information

  1. Resource Requests function as systematic reminders that prompt incident commanders to contact specific outside agencies or request additional resources based on incident type or escalation level. These requests help ensure that all necessary external stakeholders are notified and required resources are requested in a timely manner. Examples include reminding commanders to contact utility companies during structure fires or ensuring fire chiefs are notified for all second alarm incidents. This proactive approach reduces the likelihood of missing critical communications during high-stress emergency situations.

  • Use descriptive names that clearly identify the resource or agency to be contacted
  • Set appropriate time thresholds for time-sensitive notifications
  • Include requests for utility companies (gas, electric, water) for structure fires
  • Create requests for automatic mutual aid notifications based on alarm levels
  • Establish requests for specialized resources like hazmat teams, technical rescue, or EMS supervisors
  • Use visual icons to help quickly identify different types of resource requests
  • Regularly review and update requests to reflect current contact procedures and protocols
  • Train personnel on when and how to use resource request reminders during incidents

Troubleshooting & FAQs
