Purpose Statement
Requirement Areas define the items a user must complete within a formalized Training Plan in the Training module. They allow administrators or training managers to structure plan completion by grouping required training into clear, trackable areas based on hours, course lists, or sequenced coursework.
Background Information
Requirement Areas are configured inside a saved Training Plan and are used to establish how credit is assigned toward plan completion.
This feature supports multiple training plan structures, including flexible credit assignment through buckets, fixed completion through course lists, and ordered completion through sequenced course lists. It is especially useful for agencies that need to standardize training expectations, account for prerequisite learning, or apply requirements only to specific personnel based on rank, qualifiers, or station assignment.
Before creating Requirement Areas, the Training Plan must already be saved.

- Select the eligibility type:
- Categories
- Topics

- Stations
These restrictions make the requirement apply only to the selected items.
- Save the Requirement Area
Select Add to save the Requirement Area.
- Repeat as Needed
Repeat the process for each required area in the Training Plan.
Best Practices
- Use clear naming conventions so Requirement Areas are easy to identify.
- Choose Bucket Based when flexibility is needed across multiple eligible courses.
- Choose Course List when completion must be tied to a defined set of courses.
- Choose Sequenced Course List when course order matters due to prerequisites or learning progression.
- For Course List mode, ensure the required units align with the total time represented in the course list for accurate tracking.
- Use restrictions carefully to ensure only the intended ranks, qualifiers, or stations are assigned the requirement.
Troubleshooting & FAQs
Why is a Requirement Area not applying to all users?
Check whether the Requirement Area was restricted by Rank, Qualifiers, or Stations.
When should I use Bucket Based instead of Course List?
Use Bucket Based when any course matching selected Categories, Topics, or Standards can count toward completion. Use Course List when learners must complete specific courses.
What is the benefit of Sequenced Course List?
This mode ensures courses are completed in a defined order, which is helpful when prerequisites exist.
Why should required units match the course list time?
Matching required units to the amount of time represented in the selected courses helps ensure tracking is accurate.
Can I change the course order in a Sequenced Course List?
Yes. After adding courses, use the handle on the left side of each course to drag and reorder them.
